I'm being threatened with a spa day

FairfaxAikman · 11/11/2020 19:46

So I’m getting demands for ideas for a present for my upcoming birthday. If I don’t come up with something I’m being threatened with a spa day.

Problem is there’s nothing I really need or want (I love Scandi clothing but am trying to lose weight so think it would be a waste to ask for this)

I like books - but have a kindle - Harry Potter, Diet Coke, dogs (but have one already) “classic rock” music (think Queen/Led Zeppelin/Deep Purple/Rush) and sleep.

I don’t like make up or perfume and I hate stuff like spa days.

I work predominantly in an office environment but very occasionally out and about - and wear Docs to work, so have those already (though is it just me or is the quality declining?) and use a backpack instead of a bag (have a Berghaus one). Nice pens are a no go as the best pen for super quick note taking (which i do a lot of) is a cheap bic biro.

What the hell would you buy me?

How about a plant or a subscription to a magazine you like to head off the spa experience. I also hate spa days. Really don't see the point.

TroysMammy · 11/11/2020 20:19

Have you fancied taking up a hobby? A sewing machine, card making stuff, dolls house? Although the continuation of the last 2 will make you skint in the long run but on the plus side you can always ask for items for them for future birthdays and Christmases.

Or an annual pass to a local attraction?

A spa day would be my idea of hell too.

nancybotwinbloom · 11/11/2020 20:21

@ShirleyPhallus

I thought you could only have a spa day if your husband has taken the piss by staying out late?

Grown up Lego?

You get ones of city's etc.

Or just go mad ask for the Millenium Falcon

MrsGrindah · 11/11/2020 20:24

If you like books but have a kindle what about choosing a few hard back/ coffee table books that you wouldn’t normally buy yourself?

Vthirtyone · 11/11/2020 20:24

I am very similar and for my 40th my besties took me out for a really lovely meal, and family clubbed together so I could have spends for a holiday I was going on (which ended up getting cancelled because of c19)

Madcats · 11/11/2020 20:30

Find some fancy china/mugs/crockery that you like.

What sort of £ are they hoping to spend? You can get subscription deliveries to just about everything.

laudemio · 11/11/2020 20:31

Go for a lovely lunch together post covid?

purplecorkheart · 11/11/2020 20:36

I must confess a solo spa day is my idea of heaven, once it is in a nice hotel that I am booked in for the night with dinner bed and breakfast (and afternoon tea ideally) and a really good book. However it needs to be a solo trip. I need a room with a view that I can people watch so City Centre is best for me. Also the hotel needs to have crap tv reality tv channels that I can binge watch.

I got this as a birthday present this year (adhering with COVID restrictions, I had a ball!)

Mabelface · 11/11/2020 20:36

Tattoo or piercing?

ComeOnBabyHauntMyBubble · 11/11/2020 20:37

Amazon giftcard - guilt free book buying. I always ask for these .
Bath bombs if you like them.

Good thick soled slippers

Fluffy socks

Harry potter tshirts (I have a whole collection)

A good raincoat if you don't have one for spring/autumn.

EMP website for some rock style clothing/accessories.

Mug/wine glasses - maybe novelty ones, colour changing, light up , HP themed (I do have a LOT of HP stuff)

A proper thick fluffy bathrobe.

Powerbank (There's a Luna Lovegood shaped one)

Scarf

Obviously depends on the budget and whatever else you might be into.

But without knowing you, that's along the lines I'd go for.

TroysMammy · 11/11/2020 20:39

A cheese subscription?

Houseplantmad · 11/11/2020 20:41

Get her to take you for a nice meal somewhere special.

banivani · 11/11/2020 20:45

A day out at an escape room (ok, this is what I want) or murder mystery manor thing. Or the corona-safe equivalent of an online escape room.

Wool socks, thin nice ones, like 90 % wool, so you always have warm, but not hot, dry feet.

Personally I've been asking for potato/cake testers, because the one we have is always bloody missing.

everybodyknowsus · 11/11/2020 20:51

Zoo keeper experience.

Bluetrews25 · 11/11/2020 20:54

Something from Lakeland? (kitcheny, gadgetty, foodie). We've all got to eat!

Zixxy · 11/11/2020 20:54

I'm probably a little older than many here, but the idea of a Spa Day would kill me.

I'd have to spend more time grooming my hairy legs and dry skin before presenting myself to the therapist than would be worth it!

But I did enjoy them when a bit younger, well just a bit!

We don't usually do Christmas presents as adults, but this year after all the crap so far is a little different. So (boring I know) I am getting the M+S integrated duvets plus cover that you can put in the WM.

My SIL recommended them and they are absolutely fab! No more changing the covers and giving myself a flipping hernia lol.

edwinbear · 11/11/2020 21:34

Hotel Chocolat subscription? They post a box of chocolates through your letter box once a month for a year. They were good days of the month.

ComeOnBabyHauntMyBubble · 11/11/2020 21:57

By the way..

SPA days were my idea of hell too, until I went with my best friend. We spent the whole time laughing, making stupid jokes and had great fun(no kids either obviously!) . We went for a swim, did the jacuzzi, jumped from sauna to sauna(about 4 different types) and had a back massage in the same room together... it wasn't very peaceful but it did feel good. Grin

Darklane · 11/11/2020 22:01

A coat for your dog.
A weekend hire of a camper van so you & your dog can go away for a break once we get let out of house arrest.
Really comfy warm slippers & dressing gown.

SD1978 · 11/11/2020 22:13

Kindle/ Amazon voucher. Can get any book you want when you want

anascrecca · 11/11/2020 22:15

I, also, hate spa days. I struggle with presents. I get given money and it sits in my bank account, I think I'm too indecisive. Sorry I can't be of help.

YorkieTheRabbit · 11/11/2020 22:25

Good quality pyjamas
Cashmere scarf and gloves
Purse or wallet
Kindle cover

Tigresswoods · 11/11/2020 22:26

Alcohol? Chocolate? I'm happy with either.
