Bed side cribs

Hi there,

I'm thinking of getting a bedside crib to start off with, but the door doesn't go all the way to the bottom, making a small wall. Can anyone tell me if that has had any effect on reaching the baby to give it things? Does it get in the way?

You mean there's a small wall at the edge of the baby's mattress?

Totally fine. They'll be near you and you'll be easily able to trash for them and put them back at night. That's all that matters.

Hi @carrotcakesuprise, no I mean when the drop down door is down, there is a wall of about 10-15 cm. to me it looks like you would have to put your arm over it if you were lying in bed. Seems like it could be an obstruction to get to your baby.

I don't think it should be a massive problem, but personally we got a normal cot (from IKEA) and took the side off. It meant it was flush to our mattress. I think that was much more comfortable as you do do a lot of patting and resting of a handing on them, and I think it would have been uncomfortable if there had been a bit of cot in the way (thinking here about the blood draining out of my hand in that position).

I think it's also worth considering how long you will use it. The purpose made bedside cots tend to be quite small (necessary if you really don't have the room). But both of mine have slept with me well past the first few months. Having an actual cot meant they could fit it for much longer and meant overall better sleep for us.
