Anyone know where I can find a money tree?!

So many expenses looming! 2 tyres for my car plus the MOT, DD’s Birthday & Christmas. Soooo tempted to use my credit card ( I’m very good & have only used it to pay for my car) but we’ve lost income due to Covid & have had bills to pay on our rental property too 😢 Payday seems forever away & DH isn’t working & doesn’t get money from the Government until the end of the month. Anyone empathise?

Feel your pain.
We've agreed on no presents between familes this year to save £££ for everyone.
Is that something you could suggest?

EternalOptimist7 · 10/11/2020 23:32

Anyone out there?

What interest rate is the credit card? If it's low or zero then I'd put essentials like keeping car going on there. Minimise other spending.
Income:
Can DH work? You work more? There are lots of (not very well paid admittedly) jobs advertised round here (Bristol). Try indeed.co.uk etc.
Expenditure:
Do you know where your money goes each month?
What are fixed, essential costs (utilities, food etc.) what is discretionary?
What if any bills could you lose for a few months?

Second everything others have said. Money saving expert has a full guide to what sort of things you need to be looking at

I read the other day that royal mail and Amazon were recruiting for Christmas temps, some more ideas here

Is the rental property profitable? Or might it be worth selling it especially if it could provide much needed funds to live on now? Is your DHs lack of work covid19 related and is there any sign of him being able to work in his sector again soon or might retraining be worth looking at?

Good luck.

P.S if your car tyres + MOT are more than £200 you're overpaying or have an expensive car which takes expensive tyres.
I've got a 0% interest purchase credit card which I use to spread cost of things for free. Have to be careful you can repay though and don't miss a payment.

You could try asking Boris where the Government got theirs from?

BarbaraofSeville · 11/11/2020 13:27

The Government is able to impose tax rises or spending cuts on its citizens, or drag out paying back the debt over decades virtually interest free. These options are unlikely to be available to the OP.

SpookyNoise · 11/11/2020 13:27

@Ellovera2 had a good idea.

Hello everyone,
We've had a number of reports from people concerned about this thread so, as we usually do in these circumstances, we're putting our heads round the door with some important reminders.
Right now we can't see any evidence to indicate that the OP isn't above board – if we did, we'd remove the thread straight away. But the truth is that, sadly, we at MNHQ can't know with 100% certainty that any poster is genuine, no matter who they are or how long they have been here. As frustrating as it is, we're not able to vouch for anyone here.
So we always ask users to remember that not everyone on the internet is who they say they are – and remind folk not to give more to another poster, either financially (in cash or gifts) or emotionally (in time or care and support) than they'd be prepared to lose if things went wrong. Though, we strongly advise against parting with any cash or giving away your personal details, and if you receive a PM which makes you uneasy - report it to us and we’ll take a look.
Sorry to hijack your thread briefly there, OP – we really hope things start to look up soon.

EternalOptimist7 · 11/11/2020 22:52

I can state absolutely categorically that I have not posted to get money from anyone. That wouldn’t sit right at all. I was having a low day when I posted but we are far from destitute. Once DH’s loans are paid off, things will ease. And we have paid off our mortgage so only have to cover the rental property, which I think we will sell when things pick up. No begging here!
