Ran over a cat

Just that - coming home from the shops. Darted out from parked cars and it had all happened before I'd had time to react. Pulled over and another driver had stopped. Cat was obviously very close to death. Lovely lady took the cat and told me to go home.

Feel sick and awful.

@DaisyChain16 please try not to beat yourself up about it. You are by no means the first and definitely won’t be the last. As sad as it is, I think owners of outdoor cats always know this is a risk.

You can also take comfort in the fact you did the correct thing by pulling over and trying to help.

I’m sure you will be shaken for a while, but do look after yourself Flowers

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/11/2020 18:12

At least you stopped, whoever killed mine didn’t. You didn’t mean to do it.

We need to catproof our gardens so puss can’t get run over.

@DaisyChain16
Oh, bless you. This happened to me. There was nothing I could do to stop it happening. The owner was very upset but also very understanding.

I love cats & have one that goes outdoors. It is indeed a risk, & one of those things (the cat would be miserable indoors).

When it happened to me I picked the poor thing up & found the owner. They said they were grateful that I'd done that, & you obviously did the right thing by stopping.

I hope you feel better.

I would be shaken up too and its sad but there's nothing you could've done to prevent it by the sounds of it. Hopefully the cat will be OK

Sideorderofchips · 10/11/2020 18:28

Thank you for stopping

Thanks for stopping OP. It’s all I would ask someone to do if it happened to one of mine.

DaisyChain16 · 10/11/2020 20:39

Thank you everyone. I know there was nothing I could do but I could never drive away. You've all made me feel a bit better. I am 6 months pregnant so know that I am particularly sensitive but just feel absolutely rotten.

Thank you for stopping. It was unavoidable. Very glad someone else also stopped to comfort the cat.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 10/11/2020 20:44

Thank you for stopping, so many people don't. It was an accident, such a shame, but these things happen.

MillieVanilla · 10/11/2020 20:48

Can I offer a very unMumsnet hug?
Not your fault op Flowers

vanillandhoney · 10/11/2020 20:53

Please don't beat yourself up Thanks

You did exactly the right thing and honestly cats just dart out of nowhere. I nearly hit one last week pulling into a side road - the road was clear, then suddenly this black cat leapt off a wall right into my path. Luckily I was only going at about 5mph if that and managed to stop in time. My heart was in my mouth though!
