Would you get a new cleaner?

We have just got a cleaner. First time we have employed someone just to do this job.

She was recommended by a friend and charges £15ph which seems to be the going rate but feels like a lot.

She came one week, was on holiday the next - gave us a week notice, came the 3rd week, canx at short notice on the 4th because her 17yo was unwell and this week - the 5th she is coming but has changed the time. She also messaged as soon at the lockdown was announced to say she wasn't coming, and we pursuaded her to given the regs allow for it.

We really just want someone to come and clean for us, every week without a fuss. We have 3 small kids and full time jobs so it is some effort to tidy up ready for her, which we do so she can have a good run at it.

At the moment it feels like more effort than it is worth. Am I being too demanding?

First world problem I know but I am actually trying to support the local economy here too.

I'd try another. You are supposed to be in your best behaviour when you start a new job (I'm not condoning slacking after). When I was a cleaner I knew which clients I could change around if something cropped up like a doctors appointment because they knew me by then and that I was reliable and hard working. Cut your losses.

£15 an hour sounds quite a lot. Where are you?
She does sound as though she is messing you around. We have had similar with our cleaner. Last week she couldn't come because of childcare issues and we haven't heard since.
It happens. Look for someone else.

We had the same issue. Told her not to come back and now have a much more reliable one.

She sounds unreliable, I'd look for another if you're able to. And £15 ph is a lot if it's not via an agency. I pay £11 (north) and she's very reliable.

Persuading someone to come to your house in lockdown in a pretty poor show TBH.

That asides I'd probably get a new cleaner anyway.

Cleaning is allowed in lockdown. Mine is still coming.

charlieclown · 09/11/2020 20:24

pursuading - in that I pointed her to the regs. She said noone wanted her to still come, I said we did. she said she would. I didnt make her come (not that she has...yet)

I thought you would all tell me I am too demanding. Perhaps not. I might consider another. Anyone have a preference over agency or independent?

I’d probably start asking around for recommendations. £15ph is a very good rate even for London so I’d expect more professionalism.

How frustrating
Try a different cleaner and only pay, after each shift.
