Tumble Dryer Recommendations

Tumble dryer has chucked it this morning and I need advice on what to buy.

What are those heat pump ones all about. Mine is a bog standard vented one. Are condenser dryers still rubbish?

Do you love your dryer? Come and tell me about it.

This thread is quite old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’re looking for tumble dryers, we’ve recently updated our best tumble dryer page with lots of great options rated by Mumsnet users, plus info on whether a heat pump or condenser dryer is best for your home. I got a new Hoover vented from my local Euronics shop about 6 weeks ago having grown sick of my old condenser. It's much more complicated than the last machine but they all are now. However, It dries really well and best thing is I gave my business to a local store not AO or currys.

I've always had condenser dryers. The first was a Zanussi, which was fine but packed up after four years. The second was a Hotpoint, which was the same.

My current one is a Bosch, which I have had for 11 years now with no problems. Emptying the water container takes 30 seconds and is no problem at all.

Get a vented.
We have nowhere to vent so are stuck with condenser/heat pump.
Had an expensive Panasonic first which lasted about 5 years, followed by an expensive AEG which died within the 5 year warranty and was replaced with a whole new machine.
Seems like a waste of time, money and resources.

Think I'll get a Beko or Bosch when this one dies. (Beko came out well in the last Which? reviews I read.)

I've just got a Zanussi condensor dryer, and I really like it. It's nice and quiet and seems pretty efficient now I've got it set up right.

I have a Bosch self-cleaning condenser one. Just need to empty the water (and fluff obviously), the condenser cleans itself each cycle. I can't fault it to be honest. It has all the new stuff - heat/drying sensor etc.

I hated my Beko condenser dryer - rubbish from the word go. Entry level Miele condenser is fantastic - no complicated settings, easy to empty and filter needs occasional cleaning. Works like a dream and clothes and bedding get properly dry. It is a TDA150. Worth every penny. Beko I might as well have thrown £200+ down the drain.

I am tempted by the Miele. I have a Miele washing machine and dishwasher so I don't need convincing on the quality but I see a tumble dryer as a simply #200-300 appliance.

Having said that I nearly bought a Miele the last time but went for the cheap and cheerful vented Indesit. If I had gone for the Miele I wouldn't have wasted half my day researching tumble dryers and my utility room wouldn't be full of damp washing.

I bought a Beko vented from AO a couple of weeks ago £190 excellent imo does everything I need, it is in my garage and I did buy a new hose for it as the hose is very short but the hose only cost £6 from ebay
