I feel horrendous. I don’t know what to do about it. I know the answer is obvious. I feel like my weight has spiralled, like I’m so far in and like my emotional well-being is so focused on comfort food/ eating that I can never get the balance right.

BMI wise I’m almost 2 stone overweight. I’m only 29 and before I had DD (she’s 2) I’d never been overweight in my life. The extra stone came on in the first lockdown in March and then it just got worse after that.

I feel so unhealthy. I’m working from home and not exercising enough, but I feel too big to even run anywhere.

My clothes don’t fit, I feel very uncomfortable but I can’t bring myself to buy the next size.

Can anyone relate? Have you been in this weight bracket and successfully come out of it and got your BMI back on track? How?

Thanks in advance.

I feel you!

I’m 5ft 5 and 11st at the moment, but I battled with my weight last year where I was pushing 12 and I know what this feels like. Some people that height can carry it well and look great - I was unfortunately not one of those people.

I’m working from home too and it’s crept up (I was 10st before Christmas last year after I went vegan and lost a lot of weight) but my body is used to it now.

The issue is with me and DP is that we LOVE food. We love to cook daily and even though the food is healthy to an extent we use a lot of wine in cooking and other gluttonous things like butter and cream. Our portion size is huge too, we don’t go hungry.

I started fasting 16:8 or 18:6 on the odd day and as much as my weight didn’t drop much my body shape did change (I lost fat from my stomach) and it made me feel great and have more energy.

In addition, I’m a hiker too but I feel like my body is too used to this (think multiple mountains a month) so I don’t tend to use that as exercise - I clearly need more.

I have just started doing The Body Project workouts on my dinner break at home and they have been working! There’s loads to choose from on YouTube - all fat burning cardio with a range of exercises in them and they last anywhere between 20 minutes to an hour so you can pick what you feel. There’s different people on the videos do going at different paces so you can adapt it to your own pace. In addition it’s all low impact too. Please try them out, they are probably the funnest Workouts I have done, (I find joe wicks too brutal sometimes!) all others I’ve found I get too bored but this is really varied.

I plan to do something a bit more intense once I’ve dropped some weight and got stronger but it’s a good start

@RosesAndChocolates I am in a similar situation. I had a baby this summer and now still have about 2 stone to lose. I am 5'3" and started out in September at over 12 stone, and I definitely can't blame it all on baby weight. On top of that, we live in a small flat and I am on maternity leave with a small baby so was doing very little in the way of activity. About a 6 weeks ago I decided to try to get my ass in gear and started doing 10,000 steps a day, even if that meant 2-3 shorter walks rather than a long one. I've managed to stick to that and I think that has really helped, mentally and physically. Other than that, I have removed all snacks and now stick to 3 meals a day with absolutely no snacks. I'm not overly careful about the meals but trying to be sensible, so might have a bowl of muesli for breakfast for example, a ham and cheese sandwich for lunch and spag Bol for dinner. I'm breastfeeding so can't really dramatically cut carbs but in hindsight my main issue was that I was snacking loads (often out of boredom or exhaustion) so that has made a big difference. I keep a few packets of the moser roth chocolate bars from Aldi in the fridge and I have one of those in the evening with a cup of tea as a treat- they're handy because they are yum but they are only about 150 cals per bar. I've lost 11lbs so far (I had a bad 2 weeks the last two weeks and put up a pound but im determined this week to get back on the wagon). I've noticed the weight came off quite easily at first but it's getting harder and harder but I'm going to try and stick with it and see how it goes x

@RosesAndChocolates as for clothes, I am currently living in leggings and oversized jumpers. I have some Spanx leggings which are really comfy, and recently bought some leather look leggings that I wear with DMs and I have various long, knit sweaters. The tiffosi "One size fits all" jeans are also really good. They are defo not actually one size fits all, but they do still fit me now at a size 12-14, and they also fit me when I am 8-10!

@knockeduplockeddown sounds like you are doing great! I am definitely doing this 10,000 step thing now I’ve decided Smile I’m the kind of person who needs a goal so if I can stick to that it might work. I breastfed with DD and it’s the best thing I ever did because the weight dropped off naturally over about a year. I was probably about 13.5 stone (weighed myself literally after she came out and I got home ha) and I got to 10.5 ish. I do agree you physically have to have carbs/ food in general when BF! I did 14 months but sometimes wish I’d fed her for longer.

@Themadcatparade we are the same. Cooking is our life basically and it’s something we love doing together. All we talk about is food! There’s a new Nigella on tonight and I’m very excited. SmileMy body can seem to tolerate some pasta and rice. But my downfall is stuff like garlic bread, PIZZA (we have a pizza oven), stuff with wraps, homemade chips, baking ... I’m going to research some of those workouts when dd naps! I think with exercise for me it’s not just about doing it to lose weight as it does make me feel less greedy in general, when I can be bothered to do it..

@LunaNorth love yoga pants! I have a trusty pair which never let me down. Shame I don’t do much actual yoga though...

@RosesAndChocolates

I think I have come to the conclusion that cutting food down makes me miserable and I’d rather not restrict myself. I can get lazy with exercise but I am getting better. I don’t push myself and over do it, I know when I need a break for a day or so, this makes it easier to want to exercise because it doesn’t become a chore then.

Also I’ve upped the vitamin D so that’s given me a boost, much more easy to want to exercise when you have the energy to!

Let us know if you find something good to work out to!

IM 5ft 1.5" and weigh 11 stone, Im now 55. I really dont give a monkeys what I weigh, im a size 14 bottom 16 top. At the age of 55 ive earned the right to have a belly.

Toriathebadger · 09/11/2020 12:32

I can definitely relate! 5'4" and 12st9. I can feel my gut spilling over in every direction. My 3rd baby is 14 months old and I was doing well losing weight for the first few months, but I eat that much sugary shit that I've put weight on. I average around 14k steps a day so you can see how much I must be eating Hmm

I was like this after my second child and lost 3st on slim fast, and kept it off. I know I need to do something and kickstart weight loss.

RosesAndChocolates · 09/11/2020 12:42

@Themadcatparade totally agree! I actually had a lot of issues as a teenager and in my early 20’s. I will never punish myself or feel bad for eating. I mean don’t get me wrong I do feel bad about my weight right now but not to the extent that I used to.

@FabbyChix good for you! In the scheme of things I am actually the happiest right now than I’ve ever been with life in general. The weight thing is secondary! Smile

@Toriathebadger 3 children is a lot of work! Sounds like you are very active with all those steps too. It doesn’t help that all the Christmas chocolate is in the shops. I have a weakness for pink smarties... (classy I know! Smile) . I have this flabby tummy that I didn’t even know existed and I kind of still look pregnant. My little girl likes to grab it and call me squishy mummy!

If you need to eat something early, could you try fasting so you have breakfast and lunch and cut out your evening meal?

Can you give us an idea of what you eat/drink in a typical day and when you eat?

Toddlerteaplease · 09/11/2020 14:22

I'm 5ft 6 and 13st 8. I feel and look fine. Size 14. No one believes me when I say how much I weigh. I would like to loose a stone though.
