TMI: can you stop TSS by removing your tampon?

I’ve felt really peculiar the last 48 hrs. Flu like symptoms, exhausted, headache, slight temp 38. I was tested for Covid 72 hrs ago as a contact so I don’t think it’s that.

Had a bath and felt a bit “out of it” was having a wash and realised I still had my moon cup in (probably been there around 5 days ffs). I obviously removed it and had a good wash.

This was a few hours ago and I feel the same/maybe a bit better. Now panicking about toxic shock syndrome Hmm (thanks year 10 sex Ed classes).

This is likely just a coincidence isn’t it? The feeling ill and the forgotten moon cup?

I once left a rampon in when I had a chest infection and was really ill and out of it. It wasn't five days but had been there a couple. I was advised to go to a and e by 111. I really think you should call them.

If an infection had started it's not going to go away by removing the moon cup. But equally chances of infection /tss are still low. Don't just wait to see if you get more ill.

FallenSky · 08/11/2020 19:26

It is more than likely a coincidence, BUT I certainly wouldn't risk it. It won't get better on its own if it is TSS and it's extremely serious. I would get seen tonight. Hopefully it's nothing serious at all.

I’m going to sound like a complete nut job rocking up to the urgent treatment centre when I’ve probably got a cold Blush

And I have a temp so they’ll put me in the covid waiting bit. I’ll phone 111 and see what they think

You were tested for covid due to being a close contact but don't think it could be that? Shock

She got a negative? Can symptoms start later though?
PatchworkElmer · 08/11/2020 19:31

I’d definitely call 111.

Jellybean100 · 08/11/2020 19:34

I thought you didn’t get tested until you had symptoms. So therefore might be positive now

Angel2702 · 08/11/2020 19:34

I didn’t think toxic shock was a concern with moon cups.

You need a COVID test, you shouldn’t have been tested as a contact as you will test negative if you test during incubation. Hence why contacts shouldn’t test without symptoms. A negative test is irrelevant.

Cocopogo · 08/11/2020 19:35

TSS is less likely with mooncup than tampon. If you’re feeling a bit better than get some rest and monitor. If you feel any worse call 111

AIBAthief · 08/11/2020 19:36

NHS we get tested all the time. I’m working from home but someone I’d seen before lockdown got a positive so work tested me ASAP, it was negative. No cough and only a slight temp today. I feel more like I’ve got a rotten cold/headache than anything “covidy”

I can get another covid test tomorrow no problem. More concerned re TSS right now though, on the phone to 111. Have also text consultant friend at work who is doing Gynae rotation to see what he thinks

How are you feeling this morning? Did you get checked out?

PaintedBottom · 09/11/2020 23:24
