Would you do this?

Assuming all lockdowns end etc...

Would you do a 400 mile journey with a just over 2 year old and a 10 week old baby?

I've deliberately kept everything else out just to boil it down to the key info!

No not unless it was really really essential (life or death essential).

But then I'm a homebody and wouldn't want to do that journey with my now 16 and 11 year old dc 😝

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 08/11/2020 18:11

No, too long no for them to be in car seats. It would have to be for something really serious where absolutely no babysitting options.

Not unless it was absolutely essential and I’m struggling to think of many reasons; maybe for a dying relative to meet the baby but other than that I’d leave DC with someone if I desperately needed to go somewhere or at least leave the 2 year old if breastfeeding but the amount of stops for a baby on a journey like that in a car would be awful and a lot of fuss on public transport.

It totally depends on the reason. Without that, it’s impossible to say.

formerbabe · 08/11/2020 18:14

No unless absolutely essential

Sunnydaysstillhere · 08/11/2020 18:14

Nope. If you are planning a family visit I would remind them the road goes both ways...
I am all for have child - will travel but that's a head fuck imo..

OhToBeASeahorse · 08/11/2020 18:14

It would be to visit family who can travel themselves

MummyDummyNow · 08/11/2020 18:15

As everyone else has said, only if it's a life/death situation. That's such a long way for such young children to travel.

Sunnydaysstillhere · 08/11/2020 18:16

Say you will have the kettle on then...

Yes. And did it regularly for a long time

VimFuego101 · 08/11/2020 18:17

That's way too long for a tiny baby to be in a car seat, so not unless life and death. And if the baby was only 10 weeks old you may not even be fully recovered from birth by then.

OhToBeASeahorse · 08/11/2020 19:21

Great, thanks confirmed my thoughts!

I agree with this. Generally I'd say no, but if it was live or death then yes.
Weneedmusicandtheatre · 08/11/2020 20:00

I would. I did and so did my siblings with their DC. You just plan stops and breaks. People travel this sort of distance all the time.

Elvesinquarantine · 08/11/2020 20:57

Beware if you agree to this you will set a precedent for always travelling...

CatsOutOfTheBag · 08/11/2020 21:03

no way!

Cherrysoup · 08/11/2020 21:05

Isn’t there a limit on how long a baby is supposed to be in a car seat? God, no, especially if the relative can travel.

ParisianLady · 08/11/2020 21:09

I regularly drive further than this with 3 kids on my own, but no way would I do this with a 10 week old.

You'd have to stop so frequently for feeds and removal from car seat, never mind how you might be feeling after the birth.

Could you fly instead? I did this instead of drive when I had tiny ones, much easier, even with a toddler.
