Coffee machine for delicious coffee

I’m on the look out for a New machine. I have a nespresso, but the coffee tends to taste a bit ‘thin’.

Personally I love a flat white - any ideas for a machine that would make a great coffee shop tasting one?

I've got a sage nesspresso machine. With the right pods. The coffee is just as good as coffee shops. And it has a steam wand.I bought mine on eBay as they are about £400.

LyingDogsLie1 · 08/11/2020 18:03

Following - id like a new coffee machine but also one able to do long coffees not just small ones.

checkedcloth · 08/11/2020 18:05

I’ve just looked at that, gets great reviews. Thank you - it’s on the list!

Nespresso Virtua? Shop machine quality is difficult to replicate. Those commercial machines are big money

Ginius · 08/11/2020 18:08

We bought a De'Longhi bean to cup in a black Friday sale a few years ago to replace our Nespresso machine. I think we paid about £170 and it's fantastic.

checkedcloth · 08/11/2020 18:11

Although I’ve just read that if I want a flat white I should use two pods which I suppose makes sense as a double shot. I’ve only been doing one

@Ginius I like them but would ideally need something quick, I make my coffee and then stick it in a flask to take on my way to work.

Yep delonghi bean to cup here. It’s brilliant. No pods to dispose of and you can vary the strength and size of coffee.

whynotwhen · 08/11/2020 19:14

I have a Jura which is ridiculously expensive but, in my defence, I used (a lot) of vouchers towards it and have had it 6+ years and it's still going strong and looks brand new. If it ever gives up the ghost I will buy a new one the same day!
It's bean to cup and does flat white, macchiato, latte, cappuccino, americano, espresso... etc.

LyingDogsLie1 · 08/11/2020 20:16

@Ginius and @Cherry321 could you link the model you have :)

Cherry321 · 08/11/2020 22:25

Usually gets reduced for Black Friday

CatLady1987 · 08/11/2020 22:27

DeLonghi all the way :)

I’ve got a basic one that’s lasted 8 years so far!

wizzywig · 08/11/2020 22:37

There are mochamasters that look amazing. Haven't tried the coffee though

Ginius · 09/11/2020 12:16

I have this one - www.amazon.co.uk/DeLonghi-Caffe-Corso-ESAM2800-SB-Silver/dp/B00LB8FHJ4?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

It's not a fancy one but does the trick and makes an excellent coffee.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 09/11/2020 12:24

If you want a flat white, none of the messing then a stovetop moka pot is surely a good way to go? Cost about £20, take a but 5 minutes to make a good espresso!

Agree with poster above. We had a hugely expensive DeLonghi for years but when it finally stopped working we reverted to a good old stovetop moka pot and haven't looked back. Having said that, the only one that really works for me is the three cup Bialetti. I have had larger ones and stainless steel ones but they don't work as well. Perfect for a flat white. Oh, and you need to use the right coffee (Lavazza "crema e gusto" is specifically ground for them).

CuriousaboutSamphire · 09/11/2020 13:53

Yes to the Lavazza! Wondrous stuff!

SabrinaThwaite · 09/11/2020 13:57

I have a DeLonghi espresso maker - about 6 years old now and still going strong.

You do need to experiment with different ground coffees / coffee beans to find the best flavours.

SinkGirl · 09/11/2020 14:04

We have a Delonghi - not this exact model but similar

If you drink milky coffee it’s awesome - literally push one button and it grinds the beans, brews the coffee, froths the milk. Ours is programmable so you can customise the length and strength of the coffee and amount of milk - not sure if this one does the same.

They are expensive but it is my big luxury item - gets a lot of use every day!

Titsinknicks · 09/11/2020 14:08

If you're going to use a Nespresso please use pods you can compost.

Nespresso is made by Nestlé if that makes a difference to you

Ilikecakes · 09/11/2020 14:08

Sage Barista Express here, bloody love it. Just like a mini coffee shop machine, press the button to grind into the tamper, extract your shot, then froth your milk with the steamer attached to the side of it, bloody delicious.

Expensive but we’ve used it for thousands of cups of coffee over the last few years, rarely buy coffee out now as it’s just not as good as the way we make It ourselves. Look out for Black Friday deals....

hesaidshesaidwhat · 09/11/2020 14:12

Another one with a Sage Barista Express and we bloody love it too!

Try any coffee beans you like, adjust the grind and coffee size to how you like your coffee. Frother easy to use and effective, kids also love it for milk for hot choc. Easy to clean, looks fab!

JoJoSM2 · 09/11/2020 14:15

I just use a cafetière for a stronger coffee but the water needs to be 90-ish degrees and not boiling hot. I’ve also experimented with a lot of different beans to find my favourites. I also like coffee from a stovetop moka pot.

How many pods do you use to make a flask of coffee? Is it quite a dark roast? I quite like the Nespresso machines actually but have always found I needed 2 pods for a small cup of coffee so would probably use 4-5 to get a decent tasting flask.
