How did you do it? Is it possible to get fjt using videos on YouTube?

One hour cycle plus one 3 mile walk each day (whatever the weather). Cut portion sizes & cut out pasta. Lost 1 and half stone.

Running, at least 20k a week over 4+ runs. I was already fit but used to do a lot more exercise sessions over a week, consisting mainly of gym and swimming . This level of running seems to be working for me to maintain my weight and fitness though.

Bwlch · 08/11/2020 19:49

My gym carried on sessions using zoom. I didn't lose any weight but I did gain muscle and lost fat.

They have started doing them again. I did one this morning.

The dark mornings don't help motivation though.

CyclesPerfecta · 08/11/2020 19:55

Joined a local exercise group. Did about 5 live classes per week via zoom plus 5k walks on most days. We’re still going strong on zoom, and the trainer gives us exciting challenges to push ourselves each month.

Another one for les Mills.. Its life changing.

IceniWarrior · 08/11/2020 19:59

Anyone used interactive apps to get fit? Like Swift or Pelton? Anything similar?

EmmaStone · 08/11/2020 20:08

I exercised regularly before lockdown 1, and worked through, albeit WFH (which is set to continue for the foreseeable...). It helped that the weather was so good during Lockdown 1, and the days were getting longer, so I walked a lot. It was also a good way of being able to see friends. I did about 5 weeks of daily PE with Joe, which was a great way to start the day. My health insurance also offered free access to the Peloton app, so I signed up to that, and I've enjoyed it so much. We already had a spinning bike (and a treadmill) in the garage, so I've not had to invest anything. Over the summer, DH and I did C25k with DS13 (DH runs regularly, and I dabble), although having completed the programme, the change in weather, going back to school, and dark evenings has put a bit of a dampener on the running.

In the past, I've also had great use from Fitness Blender, the 30 day shred. Plus I'm a member of Move GB, which gives access to loads of fitness classes all over the country - useful now it's all on Zoom! I attend yoga using this membership, both in person (when we could), and on Zoom.

Try Centr.

It's all Chris Hemsworth's trainers, and includes loads of different types of workouts (HIIT, strength, Pilates, yoga, boxing, MMA, functional, plyo), but adds in meditations and a meal planner.

So I put in my starting point and my goals at the beginning, and then everyday it tells me what exercise to do and what to eat - takes all the thinking out of it and it was £75 for the year. He gave away 3 months free if you signed up at the beginning of lockdown, and I got hooked!

@Haggisfish

I had zoom personal trainer sessions -only £20 a session.
I have zoom PT sessions as well. Three times a week. Love them!
Bandol · 08/11/2020 20:29

I'm subscribing to the Sweat app and following a programme. There are several different programmes with zero equipment so easy to do at home.

thenightsky · 08/11/2020 20:32

I started well. But then I got injury on top of injury and no physio available, meaning I'm now a physical wreck who is terrified of hurting another limb on top of the injuries I've already got from lockdown 1.

mineofuselessinformation · 08/11/2020 20:36

Dc had a walking treadmill (we did a deal and it's now mine as they don't really use it anymore).
I got on it and increased my daily steps gradually. I got up to 3000 steps in 17 minutes at least twice a day, so quite a fast pace. I watch films or listen to music.
At the moment I'm banned from using it as I have a torn meniscus, so I bought a reasonably priced exercise bike instead.
I've lost 16 lbs and am the fittest I've been in years.

Useruseruserusee · 08/11/2020 20:37

I did couch to 5k and I’ve always hated exercise. I hated it for the first month but now I love running and have kept it up. It’s really manageable for those new to exercise.

I also got a veg subscription box and made sure to use all of the items. And started taking a multi vitamin.

lazylinguist · 08/11/2020 20:40

I got a bit fitter during the first lockdown, but it tailed off in the summer. Walking is the best imo. If you do a decent walk daily, at a pace which raises your heart rate and even makes you a bit sweaty, you'll soon get fitter. It's very hilly where I live, which helps. I also do yoga.

fiorentina · 08/11/2020 20:57

Joe Wicks - one to two per day, plus walking and cycling. I was already reasonably fit but when it definitely helped.

I use Zwift, I'm starting 4 week FTP (power) booster in the morning Grin
Bobbi73 · 09/11/2020 00:16

I walked and walked. I made sure I did 10,000 steps a day. Did couch to 5k. Surprised myself by actually enjoying it!
I did dance videos with the kids were you learn the moves. I may have enjoyed it more than them Grin. I would start by walking. It's easy, free and you can do it anywhere.
I joined slimming world and have lost weight. Good luck.

JoeBidenIsGreat · 09/11/2020 08:04

I didn't get fit but I stayed fit which was a relief. Long may it continue.
1-3 hours a day of activity outside the house, often more than once a day. Mostly walks & cycling, some runs, kayaking.

GeidiPrimes · 09/11/2020 08:17

I had a back surgery right before the first lockdown, and had become obese due to not being able to move about for a year and the comfort eating.

I started off getting fitter/losing weight by going on really long walks with my dog, and now also do half an hour of pilates (Lottie Murphy on YT) every day. It's helped with MH I think too. Also helped me to pack in smoking as clogged, tarry lungs make exercise difficult.
