Or neither? Do they actually work?

We have Ewan and personally I found it rubbish. My DS hates it.

However two close friends of mine have both a Ewen and a hummy and both absolutely swear by the hummy.

We had an Ollie the owl but it broke. We have just a standard white noise machine now and it's much better. sleep experts recommend getting something that plays all night as constantly turning on can startle baby

My hummy! It’s fab. You’ll get through millions of batteries though!

Dinosauraddict · 08/11/2020 06:12

My DS loves Ewan. In the early days it was the only way he would sleep. I'd recommend the Deluxe version they'll automatically play white noise or something when they start to stir. DS now has Ewan with no batteries in as a cuddly toy.

My Hummy! We've had ours since DD was born, almost 3.5 years ago! She still loves it although we do try to keep the volume much lower now. Ours is a Bluetooth one so we can adjust the settings via the app which is an added bonus.

Try a Lulla doll.

Plays for 8 hours and the sound box can easily be removed for washing

My little one slept through from 8 weeks not sure if it was the doll or not .

Get rechargeable batteries.

My hummy was brilliant! Used it every sleep from about 4mths old - 2.5yrs old. It really helped, especially drowning out the noise of my older child. It worked much, much better than the phone apps I tried first and had a setting to switch on in the night if she stirred. Downside - it’s a bit of a pain changing the batteries - we ended up keeping a screwdriver and batteries upstairs in case it ran out overnight. It needed new batteries about every 8-10 days. So worth it!!

Chocolateandcarbs · 08/11/2020 06:44

Also, it has a continuous setting so when she started sleeping 7-7 it could play (and often did) all night.

We love us a bit of Ewan. I shall never give it away as I love him so much 😍

AHPforthe123 · 08/11/2020 06:46

Currently lying next to our 8 week old with my hummy running. Not sure it worked that well with our now 3.4 year old but our new DS seems to like it. I much prefer it to our previous Ewan. We use rechargeable batteries as couldn’t cope with the amount of waste otherwise. Maybe you could get one second hand?

Bellesavage · 08/11/2020 06:51

I'd get a super king size bed instead as neither of mine have been conned by toys or devices that are supposed to soothe them.

I’ve got a Ewan and it’s really helped although I have used it in coordination with sleep training so now if DS cries in the night the sheep comes on and he goes back to sleep

princessbananahammock252 · 08/11/2020 07:08

I'll also add that we use ours every night, all night but change the batteries every month or so. I think because we use it at a lower volume maybe? I do remember changing the batteries maybe every 3 weeks previously though. We also use the heart sound which my daughter prefers.

bleurghhhhh · 08/11/2020 07:11

We had a Ewen but it would only play for 20 mins at a time. I would actually recommend buying an Alexa or Google Home. You can get them very cheaply now and you can choose from hundreds of white/pink/brown noise options, and play it on loop all night (or for as long as you like)

Loved our my hummy! It was a total game changer for me with DD1 as a newborn/young baby.
