Am I eligible for a PGCE? Really want to get into teaching

Hi everyone,
I'm 38 years old and I just completed a degree in Childhood and Youth studies (1:1), I thought I would be happy with being a T.A but the more Iam in schools (working as a volunteer TA in a secondary school) the more I want to be a English teacher.
My question is, can I get into teaching without a degree in English. I have an A'level in English Literature..
Thanks in advance

Google Subject Knowledge Enhancement.

Less easy/likely but you may be able to find a supportive university. Have a look at their entry requirements

Agree, look for Subject Knowledge Enhancement courses that lead onto a PGCE. I used to teach on one for Maths. Also, talk to all your local providers of routes into teaching. I know many teachers who surprisingly don't have a degree in their subject but got onto PGCE's if the degree was anywhere in the same ballpark, they had an A level in the subject and/or some relevant work experience or the course had numbers to fill.

Good luck! With existing secondary experience I'd have thought you were a shoo-in. I know very little about ITT though.

I have a degree in linguistics, I wanted to be a history specialist but ended up training as an English specialist. There were spaces on that course to be filled.
