champagne recommendations

Hi

Could someone recommend a good sweet champagne at a reasonable cost? I have about £30 budget for a bottle. If not a champagne, some sort of bubbles for the morning of my wedding?

Thanks

The winner here is within your budget www.goodhousekeeping.com/uk/food/food-reviews/g23926133/best-champagne-christmas/

I’m not a champagne connoisseur but just had a quick look at Sainsbury’s and they have a quite a few branded champagnes within your budget:

Mumm Cordon Rouge £24
Moët & Chandon £30
Heidsieck Monopole Blue £28
Tattinger £27

I haven’t looked at any other supermarkets so you may find them even cheaper elsewhere.

I can’t personally recommend any because I prefer Asti but DH likes Mumm.

The Aldi £12.99 is really nice, they do delivery if you buy 6 bottles of wine or champagne mix and match

Champagne shouldn't be sweet!!

Bezzi · 07/11/2020 15:29

I came here to recommend the Aldi one. Then saw it was runner up in that article too. I found it quite sweet for champers and nicer than most of the posher champagnes I've had over the years

YouBoggleMyMind · 07/11/2020 15:30

Tattinger is lovely 😊

delilahbucket · 07/11/2020 15:37

Mumm is a very reasonably priced champagne and it's £24 in Sainsbury's right now.
Laurent Perrier is one of my favourites and you can get it on Amazon for £29.95 now.

ISeeTheLight · 07/11/2020 15:39

My favourite by far is Taittinger. Hate Moët et Chandon.

SquigglePigs · 07/11/2020 15:41

I love Lanson Black. Also though Sainsbury's do a Cremant for about £12 that's gorgeous. I've pretty much stopped buying champagne since I discovered that.

KillingOksana1 · 07/11/2020 15:41

How sweet? Are we talking Asti levels of sweetness?

Champagne shouldn't be sweet as its a dry wine.

SquigglePigs · 07/11/2020 15:41

Oops ignore me - I missed the word sweet in your question and I drink dry wine/bubbles.

KillingOksana1 · 07/11/2020 15:48

Depending on how sweet you could look at a demi-sec champagne.

delilahbucket · 07/11/2020 15:49

I also missed the word "sweet". Champagne isn't sweet. You might be better with prosecco.

Sweetmotherofallthatisholyabov · 07/11/2020 15:50

I love Moet and Tattinger and Bollinger. But the Aldi one is delicious, I'd buy that if I have having champagne at a party or something and needed a few bottles. If you're looking for sweet though you might be better with Prosecco

Sweetmotherofallthatisholyabov · 07/11/2020 15:51

Bahahahaha Delilahbucket- cross post

GlamGiraffe · 07/11/2020 16:13

You would be better to get a demi-sec champagne not a brut which is sweeter. Brut is notiably dry. Chamoagbe also comes in doux but you are unlikely yo find that easily. There are plentyvf good demi secs gor s teasonable price available. Irs not awett lije prosecvo but definitely much less dry than a brut champagne.
Try a classic champagne cocktail (sugar cube, dash or brandy - bitters if you have them and champagne top up), delicious!; A turbo pimms, (pimms made with champagne not lemonade + gin for the brave😁, probably not recommended for wedding day! ) or champagne with chambord or strawberry puree for extra special sweeter champagne treats. (Really fantastic).
For drinking straight choose a rosé as it has a softer taste so seems sweeter too (although it isnt)
If you really dont like dry drinks go for a really nice prosecco which is sweet by nature. There are some very good ones available. Ask an independent off licence.

CovidClara · 07/11/2020 16:15

Most of the ones recommended are not sweet.
Champagne isnt sweet, look out for Demi sec but better still just buy a sweet fizzy wine that you like-lots of American fizz is quite sweet

pinkcattydude · 07/11/2020 16:16

Chapel Down English sparkling wine is lovely and not too dry

CovidClara · 07/11/2020 16:17

Or Italian

Good sweet sparkling wine and go from there

Jen8888 · 07/11/2020 16:19

Nyetimber is beautiful and English!

A little more considered than a typical champagne x

TheGreatDiamondo · 07/11/2020 16:19

The Aldi £12 one, it is seriously amazing at that price point.

TheGreatDiamondo · 07/11/2020 16:20

Oh just seen that you say you want sweet - Champagne isn't sweet...!

CovidClara · 07/11/2020 16:26

@CovidClara

Or Italian

Good sweet sparkling wine and go from there

Or even

google sweet sparkling wine and go from there

Crankley · 07/11/2020 16:31

There's no such thing as a 'sweet' champagne. What about Prosecco?

Blueberrycreampie · 07/11/2020 16:42

How about Kir Royale? Sparkling wine, eg Prosecco with blackcurrant liqueur, ( Kir). Or Bellinis - same but with peach liqueur. Most people prefer dry/off dry Champagne.
