Shared bookcase or one for each DC?

Just wondering what others with DC with a fairly small age gap do? Have 2 boys with 2.5 years between them. First one went a bit mad with his book collection so he has alllll the usual young kids books (mainly so we can read different ones at bedtime and keep ourselves entertained!)
Now with second baby (6m old) I'm wondering whether to get him his own bookcase and try to build a collection of different books, or buy a communal bookcase for the landing and move them all onto there to pool their books together?
This would give them more room in their bedrooms for other furniture too! Any thoughts on my very minor conundrum?

I would say combine their books on one bookcase for now. The younger one will work their way through their older sibling's books and there will continue to be new books they will both enjoy.
If a book is a present for one child the 'love from Granny' message can be written in the front, but books are made for sharing!

Ooooh I love bookshelves. I think I would have the bulk of them on the landing if space doesn't allow in the bedroom, then have little wall shelves above their beds for the books that are flavour of the moment. These are good www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/flisat-wall-storage-00290778/

DDs (now 9&7) now have a bookcase each in their rooms, but the actual books migrate from room to room. When they were younger, they shared a room, and a playroom, so it was obviously more communal. I buy their books based on their interests, but they overlap a lot.

(They chose to share most things actually, but that is partly their natures. It's never been forced, and they are allowed to have things that are just theirs)

Love this idea! A little shelf above beds for favourites would go down really well, especially as 3yo is going through a phase of waking up early so he gets sent back to bed to look at books until his gro clock tells him it's time to get up Grin
