Massive over supply of breast milk

Feeling really crap about breast feeding at the moment. My ds is only 6 days old but I already have an over supply and feeling mastitis coming. I had an oversupply with my dd and it didn’t settle down until she was about 6 months old. Right now I feel like I want to stop breast feeding cos I can’t bare it happening again. I’m constantly engorged and uncomfortable. Choking him on every feed and he’s probably only getting fore-milk which is going to lead to yet more problems. Has anyone battled through this successfully? I’m trying block feeding but they fill up far too quickly and it’s not really working.

@MumbleJunction - I once had to feed in the car and I sprayed the whole dashboard. DH was laughing the whole time cleaning up the mess.

@LemonDrizzles - DD wasn't interested in feeding unless she wanted. Clusterfeeding only worked for growth spurs.

@SomethingOnce - I grew from an DD to a FF cup in the first weeks. It looked like I smoothered DD. There is a photo of me feeding, I swear my boob is bigger than her head.

I've recently heard about something called 'reverse pressure softening' if you have a quick Google/YouTube. Basically doing the opposite of expressing, it's meant to really help with engorgement. Not sure it'll help with the oversupply but it might make you s bit more comfortable for a little while?!

I also had over supply.

When too full, I'd just hop in a hot shower and release some milk.

I did get a few blocks that had to be relieved this way.

A bf consultant told an nct mom friend of mine to feed lying down on your back with baby on top. I found this worked on sofa.

Also, if you want to stop breastfeeding, just stop. Babies survive and thrive either way in my experience

Thanks so much for all your replies it’s nice just to hear everyone else’s experiences and know I’m not on my own! I gave in this morning and sat in a hot bath and let most of it go. Hopefully I won’t suffer too badly with the consequences!

Also - does anyone know if still makes it worse if I don’t actually stimulate the nipple at all? I can literally sit in the bath and put pressure on my breast and it’s spraying everywhere. Does that still make it fill up again?
