Just fancied starting a nice positive thread!

I've come off all social media, and I've also lost half a stone in the past 3 weeks! Started exercising too. Only on exercise bike but its better than nothing!

I've done over 100 days straight with no sugar, dairy or grains. Not an achievement in everyone's book but I'm super proud of that

I've also joined a new job in a new school as exams officer and have taught myself a whole database from scratch to organise the mock exams. I'm super organised and I know they are impressed and I'm proud as punch of myself

Iwonder777 · 06/11/2020 18:32

Helped my autistic dc pass their maths test and my other dc to pass their maths

Iwonder777 · 06/11/2020 18:33

Dog! English for the first child 😁😂

I have gone nearly 3 months without alcohol.

I have a job I love and others seem to think I'm good at.

Breathmiller · 06/11/2020 18:37

Oh, I've also taken FB off of my phone. Haven't missed it. (I do have it on my laptop as it's a big part of my advertising for my business but I don't endlessly scroll anymore - its a working transaction)

Justgivemewine · 06/11/2020 18:41

I changed the wheel on my car this week. First time ever, one of those things I’ve always dreaded having to do even though I know what to do.
Apart from the bit where I though the nuts were never going to loosen and having to actually stand on the wrench to loosen them, it was actually a piece of cake, just took a while.

I still drove home quite slowly with the emergency wheel though just in case I’d done it wrong and it came off bouncing down the road in front of me. Happily it didn’t, and I was so proud of myself I had a large cup and tea and ginger biscuits to get over it 😄😄

But oh my goodness, my leg muscles ached the next day from all the crouching and jacking up the car.!

soundsgreektome · 06/11/2020 18:42

I managed to convince a very young, unsure child that letting us fix his very poorly tooth was a good idea. He let us, he was happy and we managed a first class job. Smiles all round. Not a bad day at work.

Nosuchthingastoomuchcheese · 06/11/2020 18:45

Fantastic! I'm missing Facebook a bit but very glad to be off twitter. Never had instagram in the first place!

Soundsgreektome that happened with my son. He banged his tooth and it was infected and the dentist had to pull it out. So thank you for being amazing with that child today. Our dentist was wonderful too.

Well done justgivemewine
I always say I'm a femenist until it comes to cars. I do pathetically call on dh who is handy with a car and loves tinkering. But I should put my big girl pants on sometimes 'cos it would make me feel all empowered. 💪

And yes thank you to soundsgreek for doing your job and helping little kids (and bigger kids) feel at ease with what you do.

Breathmiller · 06/11/2020 20:04

'Feminist' even

A SUPER achievement and one I'd like to copy - well done! Grin

soundsgreektome · 06/11/2020 20:51

Thanks! I’m only the dental nurse! But it’s a good day when a patient is happy and compliant!

NoSensei · 06/11/2020 20:56

I’m on day 23 of doing a 15 minute jog every morning. It might not sound like much but I’ve been unwell and also have always hated exercise (and mornings Grin) so for me this is huge!

Drogonssmile · 06/11/2020 21:05

I completed couch to 5k from 1st Aug to 30th Sept.
Also got a distinction in my first year doing a degree with the open university. While working 30 hours a week and the usual family stuff with two kids 3 and 6 years old.

Nice idea for a thread op Smile

mrstemp · 06/11/2020 21:10

At the grand old age of 54 I've passed my driving test (in an automatic as I can't be going with the gears😜). I no longer need a chauffeur or public transport. Its fab.. You are never too old.

Kenworthington · 06/11/2020 21:20

I got a new job and I started this week and I’m really enjoying it. After caring for my dm for years, she’s now in a nursing home so I thought why not. And I like it!

Nosuchthingastoomuchcheese · 06/11/2020 21:23

You are all awesome and soundsgreektome dont put yourself down. You are not only the dental nurse, you do an incredible job xx

For the last 3 weeks I've included something new to the meal plan, and each week it's gone well.

Doesn't sound like much but I'm disabled and cooking is a real marathon for me, and to have dc (teens) and dh day "when can we have that again" has really boosted me!

Mrsfrumble · 06/11/2020 21:36

Well done everyone! You are an inspiration @mrstemp. I’ve always said I’ll learn when I need to and can afford it (lived in London all my adult life, so neither apply so far) but family and friends seem to think if you haven’t learned by 18 you’re a hopeless case.
I fixed our coffee machine. It had started leaking water instead of brewing coffee, so I took it to a specialist coffee machine repairer (who knew such a thing existed?) who told me he could do nothing for it. But I found a video on YouTube, ordered the replacement parts online, bought special screwdrivers from Lidl and fixed it myself. Just in time for lockdown, which is good because DH and I are both home all day and we drink a LOT of coffee!

lastnightthemooncame · 06/11/2020 21:37

I was so frustrated with the hate speech on Yh* news comments. I got into an anxious angry spiral about it. I'm not at all naive & see it on lots on twitter etc, but no idea this was in the mainstream.

At start of lockdown, & time on hands, I spent time asking people on social media to report hate speech when they saw it, & I also reported every post I could that contravened community standards.
(Hundreds a day).
If you don't know it, it was vile racist (N word, P word) Sexist, threats to women & other lovely stuff.

Can all be seen by all ages.

A few weeks ago I saw that Yahoo comments are now closed.

If at all contributed to that cesspit of hatred closing in any way, then great.

I hope it stays shut down!!

(Oh and also started cycling and learned music composition software and I'm really enjoying it!).

I still drink waaay too much wine and watch too much TV though!

Dazedandconfused10 · 06/11/2020 21:37

I've massively cut down my drinking (sober friday for me!) And I got promoted.

LearnedResponse · 06/11/2020 21:50

You’ve all done amazingly and I’m sorry to lower the tone, but four years ago almost to the day I firmly stated that it was a ludicrously reckless decision to cast Johnny Depp in a pivotal role in a huge film franchise and that the studio would rue the day.

So I’m quietly bathing in the warm glow of toldyouso.

Mrsfrumble we lived in South East for over 20 years so that's one reason why I didn't learn then. Now we live in a tiny village in Yorkshire with very poor bus service so a necessity. But if you want to do it you should do it for you. You mended your coffee machine.... Girl power 😜
