#bekind only used if someone disagrees with you

Belong to a few different groups on Facebook and of course tonight has the obligatory moaning about fireworks posts.

Obviously this is a divisive topic so lots of different opinions on it, but have seen now on lots of different posts #bekind being used just because someone has disagreed with their opinion.

Having looked through the posts nothing rude or unkind has been said so it’s purely just because they are not happy to have not been agreed with.

Am a little bit annoyed that the message behind #bekind which i think is really important is being undermined like this.

I'm not a fan of #bekind, as people usually think that they are kind. Don't Be A Dick would have been better, if less child friendly.

Puppypal20 · 05/11/2020 20:22

@DioneTheDiabolist 🤣🤣 yeah have to agree with you on that one.

Yeah, I agree #bekind is too quickly translated as know your place and STFU

ErrolTheDragon · 05/11/2020 20:33

#bekind to who though?

In the context of fireworks - should you prioritise being kind to people, especially kids, who really enjoy them? Or be kind to people and animals who hate loud noises?

That's one of the problems with that sort of facile, virtue-signalling hashtag. Sometimes there are competing interests and 'being kind' to one side may be unkind to another.

Puppypal20 · 05/11/2020 20:43

@ErrolTheDragon I see #bekind as more of just not posting offensive/insulting comments to people just because they don’t know who you are.

I agree though that’s it’s very ambiguous.

A slight digression, but 10yo DD commented that the ‘mean girls’ (her words Hmm) in her class are the first to cry “be kind” if anyone stands up to them or disagrees with them in anyway, yet it never seems to apply to how they treat others.

I now notice this everywhere in the adult world!

I have mentally renamed it #bekindtome

Spiderbaby8 · 05/11/2020 20:50

It gets misused a lot. Kindness is so important but #bekind is so often used against people who are sticking up for themselves and as a way to shut people up, especially women.

Puppypal20 · 05/11/2020 20:55

100% agree with your posts, it’s just being banded around when someone isn’t expecting a comeback and either can’t argue with that comment or can’t think quick enough.

Yes, it’s a bit like calling dibs isn’t it. Fastest person to call it wins it.
