Or any store that sells beauty products like Superdrug or supermarkets? Wondering if they have cordoned off their “non essential” items or not?

Went today they weren’t closed off.

Not closed off but our local store they ask at the door what you want. It is very small so they're prioritising prescriptions.

Superdrug seems totally normal (in Wales, where we have had a ban on non essentials). I bought eyebrow dye and nail varnish.

In Wales it was a bloody nightmare.

First weekend everything the first minister decided wasn't essential was blocked off, including in some shops sanitary and incontience pads, and batteries (as a diabetic I rely heavily on batteries, and the other two are essentials for me too) gradually someone with more than a brain cell got him to understand what "essential" actually means to people.

Now everything that's for Christmas is still cordoned off, wrapping paper/Christmas sets. Where I live shops had already put those out when our lockdown happened so whole aisles have just been closed.

You'll probably find if they're doing prescriptions, particularly if they have vulnerable staff you'll be asked what you need and asked to wait as long as it's essential. I know a light form of sheilding has been put in place in England so expect staff shortages as well as stock blocked off.

The blocking off incidentally DID NOT happen right away but over the first Sunday where most places closed to cordon things off. So have that in mind too.

Thanks all! This lockdown definitely seems less dire than the last Smile

@Becca19962014 ah what a nightmare! Hope that doesn’t happen here. As if they blocked off sanitary products or batteriesConfused

Becca, I've found as the Welsh lockdown went on, that the shops started to get a bit more sensible and opened up some stuff. Although it's still inconsistent across supermarkets. Boots and superdrug where I live will let you bit whatever you want and the supermarkets seem to do whatever they fancy. In Morrisons you can't but towels but you can buy books, but in Waitrose you can't buy books but Christmas cards are okay. It would be funny if it wasn't so ridiculous!

Becca19962014 · 05/11/2020 20:25

mrs where I am most shops haven't changed. You can now buy sanitary products and incontience pads and can also access batteries along with other essentials like deodrant/body spray in pharmacy but anything luxury has been cordoned off. I've seen pictures that the last remaining post office in the county which is in a whsmiths (I believe) is all cordoned off except for pens and paper for students to access for studies following a campaign by student unions. Everything else though is still cordoned off. No books where I am are available. They've all been blocked off. No kitchen equipment either.

So they can't even consistently get it right across Wales.

I can't say I'm surprised though. If drakeford had a brain cell he'd be dangerous (worked in the NHS when he was in charge of it. I say in charge, more specifically he dismantled it!).

throwaway oh they did. It was all over the news that tesco claimed they weren't essentials, I believe other shops claimed the same. It was discussed on MN as well. It was sorted after the first two days but they were definitely blocked off!!

It was dreadful. I lucky always have a spare pack at least so it didn't effect me. It did others.

Bright side it won't happen in England so you don't need to worry.

Spamfrit · 05/11/2020 20:32

Work in a big city centre Boots, nothing is off limits.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 05/11/2020 22:34

It's definitely weird that I can't buy a bath towel in the supermarket but eyebrow dye is fine Grin. it's either laugh or cry
