Would you hire someone of opposite political opinion?

You look at their CV and it's full of references - volunteering for campaigns, fund raising etc - for their support of a political party you're not very fond of...how do you view their CV?

Do you look for reasons not to employ them?

I think it's illegal to take political views into consideration when deciding whether or not to employ someone.
I might ask at interview how the person would manage if applying for a job in a company whose views and objectives were very different from the applicants.

Years ago I worked somewhere where a new starter left after the first week when he realised as sold to the MOD. He was a pacifist and hadn't realised, and didn't think it was something he could live with.
