Frozen meal delivery

DH and I are in week 2 of covid. Both feeling terrible/completely knackered and cooking feels impossible right now. We've exhausted the ready meals from a recent delivery and of course supermarket delivery slots are now just about impossible to get. Can anyone recommend any of the frozen food delivery services? We looked at Cook, but it's a week until they can deliver, so not much use, and Mindful Chef frozen meals are really pricy. Any others we could look at or should we just go with Mindful Chef?

Some local cafes are doing meal deliveries, especially if you are happy with a jacket potato or something like that. Worth asking a local facebook selling group.

Also jars of pasta sauce are your friend.

Also when ive been quite majorly ill as a single parent, DC have been known to survive nearly a month on various kinds of bung it in the slow cooker tomato based sauces with cous cous or microwave rice-
Bean chilli- Tin of Chickpeas, tin of kidney beans, tin of any bean, 2 tins tomato, chilli powder and garlic granules.
Bolognese -Mince, sliced mushrooms, garlic granules, tinned tomatoes.
Double up and freeze half

Oakhouse Foods - good meals, although they also only deliver on one day in the week where I order them. They are regional franchises I think.

Thank you, will probably go for one of these. Right now, even meals on wheels would be an attractive option!

Can one of your neighbours or friends get a Click and Collect for you?

ChristmasReindeer · 05/11/2020 16:37

Can you get something like Jane plan? They're a dieting company but the meals are nutritious and filling and you can get higher calorie 'hampers' eg just say you're a very tall, very fat man and they'll allocate more calories to you, you can choose your food, they give great discounts (have a google), you get three meals a day plus a snack, so quick to cook, don't need to be frozen.

OP, you can help with deliveries etc via the GoodSAM service. If you can't get a referral from GP etc, you can phone them direct 0808 196 3646

Oh you poor things, you must be feeling dreadful!

Is there a 'cook' or farm shop near you? If there is, maybe a friend or neighbour could pick some up for you?

Hope you're both feeling better soon

Meals on wheels where I live is, literally, Wiltshire farm foods, rebadged and charged extra!

Hot meal deliveres are now too expensive for most people as they're in line with pub charges, because, supposedly that's where people were going before needing help Hmm

Hi op, I'm a volunteer at our local community centre, and one of the things I do is go to the supermarket for people who have covid or are vulnerable to it. They just call the community centre, read out a list, the community centre gives me the list and some money and I go same day to get it and drop it off on their doorstep. The recipient and the community centre settle the bill between them.
It's worth seeing if there is anything similar going on in your area, if you have a community centre, village hall or local GP they would likely all be aware of such a service and who you should call. Alternatively ask on your local FB group.

To be clear this volunteer service is not limited to those in the care of social services or anything like that - it's literally for anyone who can't or shouldn't get to the shops because of covid.

Thank you again everyone. I replied earlier but it mustn't have posted. Cook was recommended but won't be delivering in our area for another week now. I bloody hope we'll be up and about by then, but who knows (this is already week 2). I've ordered a few Mindful Chef frozen meals to see us through the next few days as they will arrive tomorrow.

Haven't heard of GoodSAM or thought about local volunteers (it's feels odd asking for help when we are normally so fit and healthy!). Will look on our local FB pages, could kill for some ice cold orange juice...

Our neighbour has severe health anxiety so we really don't want to trouble them, they haven't offered to help despite being in touch regularly, so won't push that one.

Thank you again, this is such a horrible illness, the worst either of us have ever felt apart from being post op after major surgery.

Could you do Deliveroo or Uber Eats for a couple of days? Not ideal long term, but could tide you over.
