Black bathroom fittings

Does anyone have black bathroom fittings (which appear to be all the rage atm) and have hard water?

We're having our bathroom redone soon, but I'm hesitant about the lime scale on black fittings. I'm not a big fan of cleaning - who is? - so don't want a bathroom that will require extra work.

That doesn't bode well, does it? Confused

They strike me as a bit of a gimmick and that thread confirms my suspicion that they're very much a case of style over substance, a bit like the beige kitchen sinks of the 80s.

Stuff like black fittings will be horrendously dated in 5-10 years time as well as being impractical. Not worth the money.

Honestly anything in a kitchen or bathroom that has cleaning instructions like "wipe with water and dry with a soft cloth after every use" is Not Durable and should be avoided. All surfaces should be able to be blasted with Cillit Bang because those are rooms full of soap, limescale, unmentionable stains etc. And they are practical rooms where you can't mess around drying a tap with a soft cloth every single time you touch it.

NO NO NO! We inherited black shower and sink in our new house. I hated them on sight. Never ever looked clean, previous owners had sprayed cillet bang or something on the tiles and stained them horribly. I have literally just had it all resprayed white and my god, the difference!! Don’t do it!!!

I have black taps (they came with the place) and hard water. Limescale doesn't seem to be an issue, far less than when I had traditional chrome taps, but I think that might be down to the shape of the taps/spout. They look better for longer than the chrome taps, which always looked dirty if the water marks weren't wiped every day. I've been using Viakal on them for 2 years as they didn't come with instructions and they seem fine!

One has a tiny chip though and it looks awful. I don't think they will stay looking good for as long as metal taps but they will probably be out of fashion soon enough...

Never, ever again. I once installed a black bathroom sink, it looked beautiful in the showroom, all sleek and glossy and contemporary. But of course every time someone brushed their teeth, it left white toothpaste smears all over it. The only time it looked as good as in the showroom, was in between it being installed and the first time someone brushed their teeth.

I suspected as much. Although they look beautiful, I'm not particular enough to buff something with a soft cloth or use anything other than standard cleaning products.

They look bloody awful.

I don’t have black fittings but had black counters in bathroom and kitchen and honestly never again. No matter how many times it was cleaned within 5 minutes despite no one using it it looks filthy again. It shows up everything.
