Anyone that hasn’t started Christmas shopping yet?

OP posts:

Normally I'd have got most of it by now but this year the kids don't know what they want. Am tempted to just get vouchers for family rather than the usual sort of gifts.

Viv0321 · 04/11/2020 11:38

Me, it's not December yet!

happystory · 04/11/2020 11:53

Me

ArosGartref · 04/11/2020 11:55

Yes, my people. Every year I say I'll be a bit more organised. This year I said I'd definitely start earlier, just in case, and yet...

I think this week is the week. Or maybe next week.

WankPuffins · 04/11/2020 11:55

I never do until end of Nov. Mostly as my kid always seem to change their minds. I only buy for my children though and it’s almost always Amazon or eBay - can’t remember the last time I bought presents in a shop.

SocialBees · 04/11/2020 11:58

I have three DC and I haven't started yet. I usually start around mid November. If you leave it too late they change their minds!

SunscreenCentral · 04/11/2020 11:58

Nope. I’ll think about it in a couple of weeks

SocialBees · 04/11/2020 11:58

I mean if you start too early!

CMOTDibbler · 04/11/2020 12:00

I never start until December. I only have ds and dh to buy for now anyway, and dh will do an Amazon wishlist so its just a matter of ordering what he wants

Thirtyrock39 · 04/11/2020 12:03

Me I have three kids and a fairly big extended family.
Always have a lovely Christmas and am not a Scrooge at all but never understand the weeks of shopping and stressing that others do. I don't go mad on gifts - extended family we have a £10 limit per gift (actually harder sometimes than splashing out on a big gift though !) and for the kids it's one 'big' £50 ish present each and then stocking of about 7/8 little things and sweets and a chocolate Santa, a board game for the kids 'from the cat' and big food shop xmas week. I do one city shop after December pay day and then pick things up as I see them / order bits online etc ...

huuskymam · 04/11/2020 12:09

I've bought a new Christmas tree and some decorations only because I got rid of last year's, they were ancient. I don't usually start till the first week of December, I like to get my sons birthday at the end of November out of the way first.

caringcarer · 04/11/2020 12:15

3 adult children are all having money to get what they want. 1 foster son of 14 and I have his main gift a cricket net and bowling machine that was v expensive and more than I normally spend but it has been a difficult year. I have started picking up items for 4 DC stockings and for DH too. I am getting most things online as safer than queuing.

chickydoo · 04/11/2020 12:24

Haven't thought about it yet. Too busy with work and tbh I just can't face it.
I always organise 100% of Christmas related stuff. DH always does 0
Just can't be bothered anymore

edwinbear · 04/11/2020 12:52

I haven't started yet. DD's birthday is 15th November so I never start Christmas until we've cleared that. DC change their minds so often about what they want I'd end up with lots of stuff they didn't want anymore if I started before December.

WhatAreWordsWorth · 04/11/2020 13:07

Most of mine is done, I’m waiting for Black Friday for a couple of tech items. I don’t find it stressful to get it done early - it spreads the cost and for me, it actually makes December much less stressful as all I have to think about is drinking Baileys and wrapping (I do love wrapping) Grin

I’ve already had issues with three separate online orders getting lost/not arriving in the last couple of weeks. I work in online retail and our suppliers and couriers are braced for a very busy December working well above normal Christmas capacity.

Beetlewing · 04/11/2020 16:34

Me. It doesn't take that long. The kids want things I can order online or pick up from anywhere and I never liked getting caught up in the frenzy of Christmas shopping anyway.

Ihaveyourback · 04/11/2020 16:45

I don't know how anyone can leave it, it truly surprises me especially this year. I buy around 120 presents, that all need to be wrapped. We have a biggish family. I like to choose something extra special and thoughtful - not just any old thing. I would never give vouchers for instance. I have to send away eight presents to children that live to far to deliver.

This year more than ever is likely to be hideous. Everyone will order online and deliveries will be stretched beyond what they can realistically logistically cover and things just wont' arrive. Trying to get through to customer services in a lockdown will be all but impossible as companies try to work from home and slim down their team. Getting out might be hard if you have to isolate, or god forbid are ill for two weeks and many places have already sold out of the best stuff.

There is just no way I would leave it, the stress would kill me for sure.
December is a time for having fun, seeing friends and family and is busy enough!

Ihaveyourback · 04/11/2020 16:47

Needless to say all christmas shopping is done!

lostandfound55 · 04/11/2020 16:49

I haven’t started and I have kids. We have a couple of birthdays October/November so normally don’t shop until those have passed. Also dd’s always change their mind about what they want.

Iamblossom · 04/11/2020 16:50

yep, started buying things as I see them or think of them or my kids mention them to me. Avoids a mad panic and rush, plus i like taking my time over the wrapping.

Lurkingforawhile · 04/11/2020 16:52

Me, and I also have three birthdays to do between now and then. I usually do a lot online but like little Christmas fairs for nice things. Tbf I've been isolating for the last week and didn't see the lockdown coming! I have got the week before Xmas off work so that's my back up plan.

movingonup20 · 04/11/2020 17:12

One year I left it to the 18th December and ordered 80% off amazon and got the remainder in Asda, so much easier. This year I'm waiting to see if we can even see people, I'll avail myself of shipping straight to my recipients if I'm not seeing them

GetOuttaMyPub · 04/11/2020 17:16

Havent done a thing. Not hugely fussed about buying loads of crap this year. DC are teens and are happy with a few ‘big’ gifts. We’ve got decorations and an artificial tree in the loft. I’m not doing a Turkey, so sure I’ll find something else nice to cook for the day nearer the time.

I’m not in the mood for panic online shopping. No stress or fuss! Just going to take it easy.
