DD hair isn’t growing much

Apologise if this is wrong section (please direct me to right area if so). I’m wondering why my just over four year old DD has less hair than most one year olds Confused Is there something stopping it growing or is it just one of those things?

My hairdresser told me it was okay and she’s get more hair eventually and also not to worry about cutting as it made no difference. I’ve tonight trimmed it again very slightly. Barely an inch taken off it in her whole life and yet it’s still hardly to her shoulders and very fine too. I keep seeing all the girls in her nursery with long thick hair and although I’m not bothered I’m worried DD will start to wonder where her hair is especially once she starts school. She honestly looks like she’s still a young baby hair wise. Any suggestions?!

In my experience working in pre-schools this is totally normal. I always find it is girls with very fine light coloured hair that seem to take a long time for it to grow. My youngest girl was the same, all the other preschoolers had long plaits or ponytails and I could only put a bow in her hair as she hardly had any!

I wouldn’t worry about it at all. It will likely start to grow more as she gets older but she will likely just have fine, thin hair.

Dd was like this when she was tiny. She has gorgeous long hair now. It didn't grow till she was about 3 x

Some just have finer hair. It will come in time. My dd was the same. Has long hair age 15, that's quite straight.

Thank you. That’s reassuring as just thought maybe I’d gone wrong somewhere with not trimming it enough etc though I’ve been told that makes no difference. It is very fine and very light so I suppose it will take time to come it. She always looks like I’ve never even brushed it as it doesn’t sit well and it’s so fine and baby like. It seems to come away easily with clasps or bobbles too.

Thank you. It is very fine and very light so fingers crossed it grows eventually. I know rationally it will grow in time but seeing all her nursery friends with masses of hair i was wondering what I’d done wrong! She’s not had it cut very much but I’ve been assured this doesn’t actually impact it. I have stupidly thick hair myself so the finest of her hair is all new to me too.

DD is the same. At four I can just get the tiniest plait in it, I've only ever trimmed the ends when they've got scraggly (though she did give herself a fringe last year 🙈)

I doesn't help that it ringlets when it gets past her ears but it flat on the top, so looks even shorter!

She was practically bald until she was nearly 2. Everyone thought she was a boy.

Fair and fine here as well.

My DD is the same too. It's finally grown to neck length at the back, but is still only ear length at the front - she's never had it cut. Apparently mine was the same, it still is fine and I've never been able to grow it longer than just below shoulder length as it gets too straggly.
