I dislike the film but Emma Thompson is fantastic in it and what her character goes through resonates so strongly with what I'm having to deal with at the moment and it's heartbreaking. I wish I had an ounce of her on screen fortitude. Does that line pull at anyone else?

It's never really clear what happens at the end of the film, I always felt that she was staying 'for a while for the children' but it would never be the same and eventually she'd cut her losses.

I though this too.

Though in RL some family were shocked at friend's funeral - friend has set up and run several huge local clubs and was very active in community. Eulogy was all about DH work and his trips - rarely mentioned the deceased wife. Sons and DIL went around afterwards asking how they all knew her and seemed shocked how much she did -DIL seemed delighted to hear about her- it was like she had a competely seperate life her family knew nothing about.

But that's the option - she put her energy elsewhere.

I've watched a few Richard Curtis films recently and I'm shocked at how annoying and misogynistic they are. I loved most of them as a teenager/early 20s. That part in love actually still tugs on my heartstrings. As an actress she's the saving grace of that film. She does say 'home' at the airport and looks bitter so I thought they were suffering on

Dammit I had to google.

Apparently they stay together miserably (then hopefully she finds MN get her ducks in a row and LTB's)

I think she might well be on here Grin
