Crocheters/knitters; if you were shopping online, where would you order from?

I'm thinking ahead to Christmas; there aren't really many places locally to shop for wool apart from one shop I will visit (if it's open); so would like recommendations for somewhere to order my Christmas present from.

Any suggestions of accessories I might find handy would be welcome too - so far I only have a few crochet hooks & some jewellery pins I'm using as stitch markers.

Thank you!

I try to only knit with 100% wool so these shops are my favourites -

www.sheepfold.co.uk

www.wensleydalelongwool.co.uk

www.beadandwoolshop.co.uk/tivertonbeadandwoolshop.html

Also eBay if I’m buying a bulk lot for an adult jumper

I use that app. It's brilliant.

Aozora13 · 03/11/2020 12:20

I also use wool warehouse and black sheep wools, happy to see they’re so popular!

SinkGirl · 03/11/2020 12:42

Loop London do have some beautiful yarns.

And if you’re looking for inspiration, google the Purl Bee blog - mostly knitting but some crochet and other crafts. Went to their shop Purl Soho when I was in NY, it was actual paradise, could have spent thousands in there!

I buy from Fig Tree Yarns and Tangled Yarns - both online independent shops with excellent service and advice. Both stock a lovely selection of yarn from independent spinners/dyers - along with lots of lovely accessories and magazines.

I've also bought from Wool Warehouse, which was good too.

PenguindreamsofDraco · 03/11/2020 17:30

I'm not even vaguely a competent knitter but I got some lovely sparkly wool from West Yorkshire Spinners a month or so ago.

MayYouLiveInInterestingTimes · 03/11/2020 17:45

Deramores.
You can get little row counter widgets that you click /wind on at the end of each row without needing electronic kits and websites. Light up crochet hooks?? Smile not sure whether to be horrified or grab a dozen.

The only other gadget I use is a white angle poise light though.

Poshjock · 03/11/2020 17:49

I use a head torch Blush

Poshjock · 03/11/2020 17:53

I also got caught up with a few adverts on Facebook. Wool couture look good for beginners. I like the cushion covers. Stitch & Story I ordered a beginner project as I crochet but don’t knit. Very easy to follow. Lovely wool (merino) but expensive. Nice for gifts. Also ordered a Paraffle gift set to try a bit embroidery - gorgeous set. I haven’t started it though but look forward to trying it.

I get my wool either locally or from wool warehouse. X

We are knitters is a good kit site.

lazylinguist · 03/11/2020 18:01

I use a head torch

I use what is now known in this house as my boob light. Hmm Grin It's a bendy double-ended set of lights that sit around your neck, so you can angle them towards what you're doing. It's fab.

Lampan · 03/11/2020 18:10

Another vote for Wool Warehouse! Or sometimes eBay if WW have sold out of a particular colour.

MayYouLiveInInterestingTimes · 03/11/2020 18:10

Summary: some sort of lighting is A Good Thing.

lucysmam · 03/11/2020 18:33

@lazylinguist any chance of a link to the boob light? I do need some sort of light to be able to do much on an evening.

Thank you all for the recommendations, I didn't expect so many! I never thought to see if my local shop sell online Blush so will google first to see, and then work through all the other suggestions too.

lucysmam · 03/11/2020 19:52

My local shop don't appear to sell online, other than the odd kit, which is a shame.
