Are you sending your children to school?

Three of my friends have stopped sending their children to school because of Lockdown. I’m still sending DD as long as schools stay open. We are also both Key Workers so she will hopefully be able to continue to go even if they do shut.

Yes, still sending my DC.
I'm not one hundred percent comfortable but I can't afford to be fined.

FourTeaFallOut · 03/11/2020 11:13

Yes, my DC are all continuing to go to school. Their schools seems as busy as ever so I don't think a significant number of people have taken their children out of school here.

QueenBlueberries · 03/11/2020 11:15

yes of course. But will follow lockdown to the letter, and also any notification of need to self isolate. Both DH and I work in schools too, so we are at higher risk of catching Covid 19 than if we'd work from home. I think schools should stay open but really we should have had lockdown earlier and included a two-week half term. Didn't happen.

Yep, mine are still going to school until we're told otherwise.

Dd1's is currently only open for some year groups so she's working at home this week but hopefully back to normal next week.

Whysrumgone · 03/11/2020 11:15

I definitely am, my kids have been in 9 days since the first lockdown began in March. After the first 6 months off they were only back in for 4 days when their school had an outbreak. So they were home for 2 weeks to isolate, then back in for a week until they actually did catch covid, so they were off for another 2 weeks, which ended just as half term started, so they’re off for another 2 weeks 🤦🏼‍♀️

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 03/11/2020 11:16

Yes, they’re both in sixth form so a really important time for them. However, there’s so few students in at the moment due to so many having to self isolate, they’ve said it seems safer than before numbers of positive cases started increasing.

Quarantiming · 03/11/2020 11:16

Yes. I have to. It's against the law not to send them because you're scared they'll get corona. 5 members of staff have had it, given it to the kids and now DD is ill... Thanks.

Bramblespoint · 03/11/2020 11:17

Yes definitely school as I feel benefits vastly out weigh the risks.

Not so sure about extra curricular stuff dancing/music/drama which all seem to think they can continue as they are education?

Emmapeeler2 · 03/11/2020 11:17

Yes, mine will go in. We haven't been told otherwise and it's better for them as long as they are able to.

Mintjulia · 03/11/2020 11:19

Of course.

Ds's school has done a great job of managing the situation. They have no known cases so far. They are eagle-eyed on hygiene, continue to run a full curriculum including PE, keep him happy and absorbed. They are doing a better job than I could do.

I have to shop and interact with the outside world. I am as much a risk to him as he is to me so he'll stay in school for as long as it is available.

CatrinVennastin · 03/11/2020 11:20

Yes I am. Both are secondary age and want to go in. Their school has everything so well laid out and I feel they are safe. There’s only been one Covid case since they went back to school.

AriettyHomily · 03/11/2020 11:20

Yes absolutely. I see no reason not to.

PolarBearStrength · 03/11/2020 11:26

DS will keep going to nursery for as long as is practical (we’re likely going to move in with my parents so the drive to nursery might end up not being worthwhile). It’s good for him, it’s good for my sanity, and it’ll help him to maintain some normality post new baby (due any day).

Figgygal · 03/11/2020 11:26

Yes they are haven’t thought for a minute not to

unmarkedbythat · 03/11/2020 11:28

Yes. All of them will attend if schools are open. The difference in their mental and emotional state when attending and when stuck at home on lockdown is marked. My 5 year old was hopping with excitement to get back today. He loves his friends, teachers, TAs, activities, playtimes, lunch, worksheets and so on. If education is made available to us we will access it, and education is about far more than academic learning, especially at his age.

Suzi888 · 03/11/2020 11:29

Yes, both key workers here too.

Mrsfrumble · 03/11/2020 11:29

Yes. DCs primary had one single case last half term, in a school with 210 children and 25 staff, so hardly a hotbed of infection so far.

It’s not a question of convenience for me; I have the time and resources to do homeschooling, but the change in routine and the lack of separation between home and learning environment was distressing and a big setback for my child with ASD.

MarshaBradyo · 03/11/2020 11:30

Yes all their friends and classmates are in too
