How do I stop dry lips?!

My lips are constantly dry. No matter what I use, after a few hours they are back dry and peeling again. Unless I am constantly applying lip balm they are dry. Iv tried all sorts of brands, but they always end up the same again.
I find it hard to wear lipgloss or lipstick as it just looks horrible. Help!!

Another vote for Blistex intensive moisturiser, it's the only thing that works for me and I've spent a fortune over the years trying to find something.

DiscoMoo · 03/11/2020 13:30

The best I ever found was the Blistex in a little metal tube but they’ve stopped selling it now.
I’m currently trying O’Keefes after a recommendation which seems ok but I’m not 100% sold on it yet.
I drink loads but still always get dry lips.

Another vouching for the 'just stop using it at all' method!

Thanks everyone!! I have to say also I am a serial picker, whether it's nails, lips, false lashes, spots anything I can pick. I'm guilty Blush which probably doesn't help. But will give all ur recommendations a try!!

It's really funny that someone said don't use anything. I just realised I didn't need any extra care since I stopped using anything. I never seem to have dry lips now, but I did really suffer before and tried a lot of things. And another one for drink lots of water, that's one thing I do now, which I didn't in the past.

Carmex in the pot but not the cherry one. It's brilliant. Also, since I've used it I've never had a cold sore and used to get them regularly. I've been using carmex for 20 years, have tried other things, but nothing beats it.

lazyfecker · 03/11/2020 16:27

Burts Bees first thing and last thing and anytime you think about it especially before going outside. If you wear lipstick make Sure it isn't one of the more drying varieties

lazyfecker · 03/11/2020 16:29

Applying Burts Bees just before bed made a huge difference to me 👄

Crakeandoryx · 03/11/2020 16:29

Carmex

I didn't use anything when I was a child and every winter my lips would split and bleed. So be a bit careful with the "use nothing" approach. I use blistex a couple of times a day and quite liberally before bed. My diet is fine (according to my dietician) and I drink plenty of water (always very pale urine). I think that I might lick my lips unconsciously too often but other than that, no idea.

WingBingo · 03/11/2020 16:38

This is amazing. A mn recommendation, apply liberally all the time, not just at night.

My lips are cracked because of medication I am taking and so far, this is the only one that works.

Another vote for the original (yellow) Dr Paw Paw. It’s one of the only items I repurchase religiously. Brilliant for dry lips but I also use it on my elbows, knees and feet if they’re dry, smooth my eyebrows and tame flyaway hair with it, rub it on my cuticles... I love it so much I have one by my bed, one in the car, one in my bag!

After trying numerous lip balms for my DS who has sensitive skin and very dry lips (he has a habit of licking them!) we’ve found O’Keefe’s is the best. It has no fragrance and doesn’t give a tingly feeling, so it’s very plain, but really does the trick.

FinallyHere · 03/11/2020 17:20

After years of trying different things, I was amazed to be told on a life saving course that dry lips are an important sign of dehydration. Nowadays, I only ever get dry lips if I have not been drinking lots of water.

Hope you fund what works for you.

I'm the weirdo that can only recommend Carmex in stick form!!
I think it has salycylic acid in to exfoliate the flakes.
If anyone has an alternative to the Blistex that was discontinued I'd be so grateful!!
