Went into the office, all my stuff has been chucked out!

I’m perched on the end of a windowsill/shelf thing, my desk has been given to someone else and all my stuff is gone. Only explanation I’ve been given is shrugged shoulders and “sorry don’t know where it is”. This is my personal stuff, an expensive mouse, a Emma Bridgewater mug, a pen my children gave me years ago.

Was told to WFH two months ago but have been saying I need to come back in as there is stuff I have to be on site for. Manager has ignored all emails, never picks the phone up. I sent another email last week saying I have to come in as will miss a deadline otherwise, got a reply saying “come in then we will find somewhere for you”.

Come in to no desk (someone else sat there now), no stuff and manager just “well can you sit there, you aren’t going to be long are you”, pointing at the fucking windowsill!

Do you have a HR? I would make a list of dates that you have emailed and not had a reply, also any dates that you can remember leaving a phone message and not being phone back. Also take a photo of your current 'workspace'. Tell them that you suspect that you are being deliberately prevented from meeting your deadlines in an attempt to bully you into resigning or to manufacture evidence to sack you.

Also, start looking for a better job, your manager is shit and life's too short.

Was your desk drawer locked? Whoever got your desk might still have your personal items locked in the drawer if so. You could email around and see.

LiveFatsDieYoGnu · 03/11/2020 10:39

How fucking rude. I'd be thinking constructive dismissal I'm afraid (sorry).

FrappuccinoFan · 03/11/2020 10:42

How long have you worked there?

Caroncanta · 03/11/2020 10:43

Have you asked where your stuff is?

WitchesSpelleas · 03/11/2020 10:46

Your stuff has probably been squirrelled away into a box somewhere.

In ten years' time, when you've long since moved on to a better job, someone will unearth it from the back of a cupboard and send an email round asking 'does anyone know who CallieOp is?'

CallieOp · 03/11/2020 11:00

Worked here 3 years. Manager too busy to talk to me but she’s “sure it’s all here somewhere”. I work for the NHS.

I asked new person at my desk if they had seen my stuff, another shoulder shrug and said it had been cleared before they moved there. I asked them how long the plan was for them to sit there and they said as far as I know it’s my desk now?!

Wow OP, I don't know what to say but that's absolutely shocking. I hope you get your stuff back

hotpotlover · 03/11/2020 11:32

It looks like they are trying to bully you out of your job

Veterinari · 03/11/2020 11:34

Def speak to HR

lurker101 · 03/11/2020 11:37

Do you have a clear desk policy? Although very harsh to enforce it, there may be something in it which states that anything not removed from the desks at end of working day/week will be removed with no recourse. I’ve seen a few like that....

CallieOp · 03/11/2020 11:37

Update. Someone else just came in and introduced themselves. They asked who I am, I said I’m the person who’s office this was! They said oh it’s xxx office now, the old lot were moved. I asked where and they said 2 of them are over in another building and 1 is working from home (me). I asked where all the stuff is and they said estates cleared the office before they moved in. So no idea!

I’ve called one of the other women who worked in here with me and she confirmed we don’t have any office anymore, they’ve been sat in another department and no idea where I am supposed to go. I’m literally deskless

OP posts:
CallieOp · 03/11/2020 11:38

No clear desk policy. I’ve been made deskless in my absence with no notice or update. Boss sent me to work from home although she absolutely knew I didn’t want to and it doesn’t work for me

Twinpeaksdancingman · 03/11/2020 11:39

Is this new person doing the same job as you?
Did you know about them?
Why are you WFH but not them?
Is your manager WFH?

pinkbalconyrailing · 03/11/2020 11:41

gosh, your manager sounds really shit.

email your manager with hr in copy.
bullet list of all the things you said in your posts, including lack of communication from your manager wrt office move.

I hope it can be resolved quickly.

Cordial11 · 03/11/2020 11:42

What the hell! I would be so angry! Feel for you OP

Ohalrightthen · 03/11/2020 11:43

OP, it sounds like they're slow-rolling your dismissal here. I think you need to speak to HR as soon as you can.

CallieOp · 03/11/2020 11:46

No new people in office are from a completely different department. They were made office-less due to covid, they’ve been given our office. I’ve been sent home and the other 2 have been sent elsewhere. Manager is not WFH.

Lack of comms from manager is ongoing situation for years, I’ve been at home for 6 weeks longest stretch without hearing from her. Trying to get a reply is like pulling teeth

OP posts:
grapewine · 03/11/2020 11:47

Shocking. I'm sitting her thinking WTF reading this! I'd definitely take it up WITH HR. Can't believe no one told you either.

Feels like they're trying to push you out, which is shit. I'm sorry.

grapewine · 03/11/2020 11:50

Sorry for the random caps and typos.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 03/11/2020 11:50

At least there's will be HR if you're in the NHS. Contact them - both about your stuff and your manager's lack of contact.

Potterylady13 · 03/11/2020 11:52

It sounds like they are getting rid of you - 😐. Why are your colleagues in another office and you WFH? Surely they explained why?

ImperfectTents · 03/11/2020 11:54

Knowing the public sector it is probably incompetence rather than an evil plan. You need to contact her

CallieOp · 03/11/2020 11:54

I’m going home. This is so awkward. Tried calling manager to say I’m leaving and she isn’t picking up. Have scanned the stuff I need and will take it with me.

Will start pulling emails together for HR

OP posts:
CallieOp · 03/11/2020 11:55

No explanation given. I was working and then had an email telling me to work from home from now on. No reply to email saying why that didn’t work for me. Just ignored

OP posts:
piscis · 03/11/2020 11:56

Talk to Estates, they should know if the cleared the desks.
And then talk to HR if you cannot get through your manager.
