Anyone else not feel thirsty?

Anyone else rarely feel thirsty and often forget to drink in this cooler weather? It usually gets to lunchtime before I remember I need a drink! Blush

Half term was really busy last week with the family at home and my lack of drinking seemed to get worse, despite making drinks for family members.

Are headaches a common sign of being dehydrated? Had one on and off for the past 4 days which i think is due to lack of drink. (Probably averaged 2/3 drinks a day).

I actively tried to drink lots yesterday and think I managed 1/2 a litre while at work. I know I should be drinking more than double this.

If you drink the recommended about, how do you do it without needing to go to the toilet all the time?

Also, if you don’t feel thirsty, what helps you remember to drink?

I never really feel thirst, apart from in the morning or if I’ve exercised. I also find it really difficult in winter as I’m just too cold to drink cold drinks, unless I’m somewhere warm, as I work outdoors this is rare in winter. I don’t like drinking tea all day either. It also means the more I drink, the more I need the loo.

[quote BefuddledPerson]Too much caffeine is also not a good idea though.

Herbal teas or plain boiled water are better, I find them dull to drink but dehydration is a real stressor so worth taking seriously.

I drink decaf. Like many others if I am cold I don't fancy a cold drink. I would be very dehydrated in winter if I didn't drink tea.

BefuddledPerson · 03/11/2020 09:19

Yes I agree about hot drinks, I always drink herbal tea for this reason. Decaf is decaf, I was saying I think too much caffeine isn't a good idea.

Just me at home in term time so often forget to drink as I'm not making drinks for anyone else. It's better if I'm out because the mask makes me thirsty so I take a bottle of water or buy one but still not loads better.

TheMagneticFox · 03/11/2020 09:26

In the daytime in term time that should be. When DDs home, I'm a bit better and even better if I go out.

Coffeeandaride · 03/11/2020 09:32

I have got in habit drinking 1 pint water at breakfast, mid morning and afternoon.
Even doing this for months if one day I was out and about I could go until evening without any fluid to drink and not notice.

So I am just rarely thirsty. I do eat soup most days and the fluid in that might do me!

QueenPaws · 03/11/2020 09:39

@NoSquirrels I'm like that a little - I panic if I go anywhere without a bottle of water on me
Not quite sure where it's come from

Yup! I'm dreadful at forgetting to drink. It's so handy that DH works from home now because he'll make drinks for both of us whenever he gets thirsty. I used to go whole days without drinking or eating & DH would come home from work & be horrified.

I also frequently don't notice when I'm hot if the room isn't particularly hot. If I get chilly & put a jumper on, or come in from outside & forget to take my jumper/jacket off, I can virtually guarantee I'll have a headache & feel sick an hour or so later. By the time the headache is problematic I'm feeling so sorry for myself that all I want to do is be snuggly so removing clothing is the last thing I want to do. I'm getting better at remembering that jumper+indoors=headache & removing a layer even when I don't want to. The headache/nausea usually clears up within half an hour.

How can you forget to eat and drink? Confused, or take your jacket off?

LunaLoveFood · 03/11/2020 20:14

I now drink loads when I'm at work because I've got into the habit of carrying my water bottle with me wherever I am and it's now become a habit to sip from it.
I was at home over half term and drank hardly anything and had such bad headaches as I didn't fill my bottle up. I'm going to experiment over Christmas holiday and try and remember to fill up my drinks bottle to see if I drink more.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 03/11/2020 20:22

I never got thirsty until I drinking lots of water for health reasons. I now drink 3 litres a day, and at first I hated it - felt like I was sloshing in it. But after a while I got so used to it that I need to drink at least hourly or I feel really, really thirsty.

purplecorkheart · 03/11/2020 20:28

I was good at drinking water, I had the habit of having a huge glass/bottle on my desk and sipping all day. However wearing a mask constantly has made me get out of the habit. I tend to avoid a lot of liquids in the evening as I am a poor sleeper and if I wake in the middle of the night to pee, I never get back to sleep.

I gave up alcohol around 18 months ago and stopped drinking very much liquid at all. I'm only mentioning the alcohol because I was permanently dehydrated so always drank loads the following day. When I stopped drinking alcohol I'd have a cup of coffee in the morning and then realise in the evening thats all I'd had. I got quite constipated as a result.
I'm not much better now tbh. I'll have a coffee and a tea in the day a glass of 7up in the evening but I always go to bed with a camomile tea. So I'm probably drinking enough.

You just get into the habit of drinking water, the more you drink it.

I don't love water but make sure I drink a pint as soon as I get up, a pint mid morning, another with lunch, then mid afternoon and a couple of pints with my evening meal 💧💧💧

That will the various teas and coffees throughout the day, it's no wonder I'm up and down the stairs to the loo every hour 😯

As that makes 24 pints a day, I'm not surprised you're up and down those stairs so often, @MrsJBaptiste!

I definitely don't drink 24 pints a day! 🤭

More like 6 or 7 but the stairs at least mean I get a few steps in throughout the day!
