Whitstable for a holiday

We like going to Southwold, Tenby & Wells on holiday. Is Whitstable similar? Can you recommend nice holiday cottages to rent and places to visit please?

Whitstable is lovely but easily done in a day.

Not much there to be honest, but would be nice as a base I suppose.

I wouldn't have a holiday there but a long weekend could be nice.

It's pretty but the fact that there's no sandy beach would put me off going for a whole week. Broadstairs has much better beaches but the town is nowhere near as attractive as Whitstable.

Whitstable is beautiful, we usually drive down (from the north west) a few times a year to visit friends and always find plenty to do. Lots of stuff to do nearby or within half an hours drive if you so wish. Depends what you're after but it's a really pretty town, right by the sea, nice selection of one off shops, lots of choice of independent food and drink places too.
Not far from Canterbury if you want a bigger city and places like Herne Bay for a more Blackpool style seaside resort. Sad we can't visit for the foreseeable.

It's a nice place but if you like the beaches at Tenby you will be very disappointed by the beach at Whitstable!

Whitstable is lovely and has a very friendly atmosphere. There are a few independent shops, a nice art / craft type market at the harbour, great cafes and the castle. The beach is stony so not good if you want to build sandcastles.
It's a great base from which there are good walking/cycling routes, lots of other places easily accessible by car or public transport.
No idea of accomodation choices but believe there are a number of options.

If you're going for a weekend, check the tide tables; sea goes out a long, muddy way.

Thanks folks. Really useful advice. We will look to see what else is nearby if we want to book something.
