What little habits will help see us through the next month?

Have felt awfully low since Saturday, finding it hard to get motivated to do anything at all and have not been outside since Thursday afternoon.

I know that won’t be a sustainable way to get through the next 4 weeks or so so thinking of committing to some health(ier) habits

Had been going to the gym 3-4 times a week and in sunnier times enjoyed soaking up the sun or jogging outside.

My gym has announced streaming classes so thinking about committing to doing one most days and getting out for a walk or jog, weather permitting. I’m not a great cook but thinking of focussing on some healthy meal prep and/or baking.

I’m working from home but morale in our company is very low and there are peaks and troughs in workload which again makes it hard to manage energy.

Anyone else feeling in a similar rut and want to share some healthy habits that work for them and / or that you pledge to do? Thought perhaps we could use this thread to keep us on track.

Yes, I’m the same with the gym. I’m in a really good routine now and I’m feeling surprisingly sad at that stopping. I’d be up for a solidarity thread!

Last time I found it helpful to break the week up with nice things-Friday fake away, Saturday brunch, Thursday night g and t with question time etc. Plus walking every day regardless of the weather.

Youngatheart00 · 02/11/2020 18:45

I like the idea of different routines for days of the week plus getting out for a walk despite the weather.

I’m in that classic rut that I’m finding it tough to motivate myself to do anything but I am also a creature of habit. I don’t want to go into December looking and feeling worse than I already do.

For me, getting dressed every day, preferably before 10am greatly helps with my mental health. It doesn't seem much, but I'm far more likely to do things than staying in my dressing gown.
Getting outside every day. I was talking to my boss about how we have both walked all the walks in our local area, and how they are getting very boring. He said that every time he goes for a walk, he decides what he's going to look at, whether that's plants, flowers, leaves or architecture, and it makes a familiar walk a different experience. I tried it today walking into town, and decided that I was going to look at chimneys. I saw lots of different styles of chimneys and things that I have never looked at before, and it brightened up a dull walk. Such a simple idea, but I'm going to try to go forward with it.

I got into a habit of journaling every morning during the last lockdown, I found it a helpful way to start my day mindfully.

Youngatheart00 · 02/11/2020 18:54

I like that @BlossomCat and very good advice and breaking out of the monotony of the same old routes (and I don’t like in a particularly pretty area, either)!

Interesting @Sunshine1235 did you do it online or on paper?

I did a teensy bit of yoga today (which will only be of any help if I actually keep doing a little every day!).

Went for a walk.

I have some nice chocolates which I am rationing.

Drinking more water.

Laughing - I love Ghosts, Miranda, task master, mock the week, bake off extra slice.

Also, listening to youtube hypnosis for weight loss! (although, like the yoga, I've only done one so far.)

RosieLemonade · 02/11/2020 19:02

I like the idea of bullet journaling. I also like the idea of looking for something different each walk. Not much to add really just hope it’s goes as quickly and painlessly as possible.

Wildernesstips · 02/11/2020 19:05

I love the idea of focussing on something new on a walk. I signed up for the Move It Movember challenge to walk 60km in November, so am hoping that will keep me busy (especially as it is fundraising).

I will still go to work, so this thread might not apply to me, but I will:

Only be wearing comfortable clothes/trainers
Up my running
Enjoy lots of Telly nights!

Cuddling57 · 02/11/2020 19:19

I'm aiming to get a bit fitter in this lockdown and paint the living room, maybe the hallway too. I worked the last one and still working this one but mentally I think it's good to have a goal, although not an impossible one!

nosswith · 02/11/2020 19:20

Go out each day for a walk, but a different one if you can each day.

hollyandkit · 02/11/2020 19:26

I'm going to keep some dumbbells handy so when work gets quiet I can do a few bicep curls or squats instead of just gazing blankly out the window!

FlyingFlamingo · 02/11/2020 19:28

I’m half way through ours and we had half term and rain every bloody day last week! What helped was making sure I got out every day, even if that meant getting wet (Accuweather show the forecast rain for the next 2 hours so I was glued to that and any period longer than 30 minutes was time to go!)

We got dressed every morning and then got back into PJs in the afternoon for ‘cosy time’ - I wanted some kind of routine.

Have some sort of activity planned for each day - eg. I got the dds involved in planning a Halloween party (just for us obviously), pumpkin carving, baking, pasta making from scratch.

We also planned treats - maybe not so healthy - but we had a pizza night and brownie delivery from a local seller who we’d normally see in the local market.

CurlsandCurves · 02/11/2020 19:35

For me, exercise. My fitness instructor moved her classes to Zoom at the start of the first lockdown and they’ve been running ever since.

So we all still get to ‘meet’, have a chat and do classes together, it’s honestly saved my sanity.

Youngatheart00 · 02/11/2020 19:54

No DC here sadly or I think I’d find it easier to have purpose.

Daily exercise it is then - although I’m not good at just doing it - I need some form of goal! I spend so much time on Zoom for work so not sure I could deal with the interactive but my gym’s streaming classes look quite good.

I would say have a different structure to your day on Saturday and Sunday, so that it still feels like a weekend, and it’s easier to drop back into life when it opens again.

timeforanewstart · 02/11/2020 20:37

In our house we all have to go to work and school so mon - fri not much will change
Ds will not have sports club but they will prob go for a run to keep fitness levels up
Weekends will be harder as no where to go out but think we are getting paint and decorating and picking a cupboard a weekend to sort out
