jigsaw puzzle day

My anxiety is through the roof today. Thought I was dealing with the news about a second lockdown OK, but I'm not really. So, I retrieved the jigsaw from its space under the sofa... can't believe I have nearly finished it. It's quite a dark picture but suits my mood, and I think I might need to line up another one.

Doing this jigsaw today has quietened my chatty brain down. Where can I look for lovely puzzles, not traditional country scene / chocolate box type designs? And quite tricky ones, but not the baked beans / jelly beans type? Any ideas?

My favourite are Eurographics. I don't like chocolate box type scenes or lots of sky. 😀
These are like lots of little jigsaws put together.
I get most of mine from ebay, and then sell them on once completed. I have 17 to do, including some Ladybird book ones which I'm looking forward to.

We like the 4d time puzzles where you start with the base of a city then add buildings

poshme · 03/11/2020 07:27

@Coldhandscoldheart depending on your sofa, I use a big thin board, and slide it under the sofa when I need it out of the way.

I too have spent too much money on jigsaws recently. They calm me.

We already keep quite a bit of stuff under the sofa Blush
It’s probably due a clear out though.

I like old master type art ones. Just google your favourite artist and ‘jigsaw’ and find what’s out there.
I have just got a new Bruegel and it’s lovely.

I leave the jigsaw on the coffee table but cover it with one of the jigsaw boards when I need to use the table

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 03/11/2020 07:42

i must see if i can get my puzzle finished....I had it on the coffee table but the cat was an absolute BESOM getting in amongst it, and batting bits on the floor....never a single odd bit, only bits I had put together.

then I found the roll up thing I had bought and got it shimmied onto there, rolled it u and put it away.

Anyway, thanks for the thread as it reminded me to ask for a proper board for Christmas...we are doing a Secret Santa thing!

I was given a map oneof where I live.it was hard but absorbing. Definitely my favourite one.

The Colin Thompson ones are great - my mum and I have done many over the years.

Lovethecrown · 03/11/2020 07:55

I love the Michael Storrings scenes in Galison puzzles, as they are so pretty but tough.

TeaMeBasil · 03/11/2020 08:06

Oh I've gone mad for jigsaws lately. I like Colin Thompson but particularly love Graham Thompson and wasgijs - it is such a calming way to spend a lazy afternoon or evening. Bonus points is it's grotty weather outside.

I had the green felt but they never worked well - now I have one of those big zip up cases, you do the jigsaw in it, it has two boards to use with the pieces and when you zip it up you can stand it vertically and all the pieces stay in place. Ideal for tucking away.

i love doing jigsaws. get them from the works. bit samesy, but cheap.
sadly charity shops don't seem to have them.

HerculePoirotsGreyCells · 03/11/2020 08:17

I love jigsaw puzzles too and have spent a small fortune at The Works. They do deliver. They have a good mix but I do love the corner piece /Trevor Mitchell artwork ones.

GoGoGone · 03/11/2020 08:20

We've got a felt roll with an inflatable inside. Works well most of the time but not when we had a puzzle with unusual shaped pieces that did t click together as well.

Best thing we bought was some little sorting boxes from the works. Very handy.

I'm planning a trip to Waterstones today to buy a couple of lovely new ones before lockdown. Have been burnt recently by cheap shoddy ones from China via amazon that were a nightmare to put together and came with three missing pieces 😭

I just looked up his puzzles. I really like them, but my heart hurts right now London/Paris/New York all full of people, cars, activity Christmas carolers & apres ski...

Life as we knew it. I think I might have to stick to trees, animals & Brussel sprouts!

JuneFromBethesda · 03/11/2020 10:08

I love Wentworth jigsaw puzzles. They are so beautifully made, the pieces feel lovely and they have 'whimsy' pieces, specially shaped pieces in keeping with the theme of the jigsaw.

TriSeaSwim99 · 08/11/2020 14:13

Don’t fall into the trap that I just did ordered a jigsaw off eBay thought it was the normal 1000piece Ancient Bookshelf one (very clever rip off advert), only for it to arrived with Chinese writing and “mini puzzle” on the box - the pieces are fingertip small grrrr!! I rarely fall for their crap these days but even re-reading the advert at no point did it say “mini” Angry the puzzle size cm is however listed so I can’t send it back... hohum I was looking forward to making that one Sad
