How do I return a parcel that doesn’t belong to us (Hermes)??

Our tenant moved out last week and had ordered (the day before she left 🤨) 2 parcels to our house. She’s been an absolute nightmare of a tenant and we’ve had to raise a dispute to keep the part of her bond that she didn’t already owe us in rent to cover a tiny part of the damage that she’s caused. This did not go down well and she stormed off, refusing to provide a forwarding address. Before she found out this she’d told us about the parcels and asked us to take them to our house and she’d collect them. We reiterated for the third time that we have moved house and now live 30 minutes away (she doesn’t drive).

We were at the house having new carpets fitted when the first parcel arrived and we refused it so it’ll be returned to sender and she’ll get a refund.

The second parcel was left in the recycling bin so I brought it home with the intention of returning it to Hermes. Except I can’t get through to Hermes on the phone. Their online chat feature doesn’t actually allow to you to chat with anyone and I can’t set up a return online as I don’t have the email she used and I don’t know the company that she bought the item from.

She wants us to drive the hour round trip to her sister’s house to drop it there but I’m not prepared to do that. I’m also not prepared to pay to send it there either as this is entirely her mistake. She’s threatening all sorts as we’re trying to ‘keep her parcel’ when we actually have no intention of keeping it or desire to do so yet she still won’t provide her forwarding address.

Anyone got any idea how I can actually manage to get in touch with a real person from Hermes so I can arrange for them to collect the parcel?

If you google your local MyHermes pick up/drop off point (probable a small corner shop). I would tape up the parcel and pop in for advice.

They might be able to return it to sender using info in the bar code label.

what number are you trying for Hermes?

@MagentaRocks

It is illegal if you open something through royal mail without a reasonable excuse.

You have a reasonable excuse and not sure if it covers stuff delivered through a courier any way.

Not true. It’s only illegal if you intend to defraud or deceive.

Take it to your nearest Hermes locker/drop off/pick up point and abandon it there! You'll get a receipt!

I can try that in a bit actually as we need to pop out and there’s one on the way!

You just need yo stick the returns label with the barcode on over the original one then take it to a shop and hand it over. There might be a royal mail label too.

There isn’t a returns label. It looks like it’s from a pretty dodgy eBay shop TBH.

Or facebook shout for the local Hermes deliverer. Get them to return it!

Or go to the Hermes website and speak to their HollyBot... tell her to arrange collection from the same recycling bin!

Says without reasonable excuse. Defrauding would not be a reasonable excuse.

If it is small enough to fit in a post box then just readdress it and post it. Royal mail will surcharge it but will attempt delivery. Up to her then to pay surcharge to get item.

Our Hermes driver is on the local Facebook page and often responds to queries - he/she might just pop round and get it as a rejected delivery.

Just cough up the cash and post it to her. Honestly you're making a big deal out of it. Why make life so difficult over a few pounds.

Because that’s why people like the ex-tenant think they can get away with this sort of thing, BusterGonad. It’s not for the OP to sort.

Send it via RM back to Hermes (with no postage)
Black out the original address

Why? Because we’ve just forked out over £1500 to put our house right. Because I’ve literally had to scrub her (or her kids) shit out of the toilet. Because she won’t give us her forwarding address because she’s in debt up to her eyeballs. Because she could have waited one day to order it and not had any problems.

I took it to a Hermes delivery stop and they wouldn’t take it but @marydtf has a great idea. We’ll post it to her sister’s address and they can cough up the postage, or not.

So what was in the parcel? 😂

I know what you're saying, but keeping it and worrying about it takes so much negative energy. The sooner its out of your hair the sooner you can move on. I appreciate you've had a shit time.

Yes, stick in in the post with the other address on it and no postage. She'll have to pay on collection from the sorting office

What was the item?!

Google Hermes Parcel Shop & take it there.

@ShirleyPhallus

What was the item?!

It was a bottle of perfume. Not hugely valuable but more than she’d want to just lose.

For anyone that might be interested in the outcome, I took the parcel to a Hermes parcel stop and they wouldn’t accept it. A very lovely Hermes driver just came to pick up a parcel of mine that I needed to return and he took it for me. He said he’d speak to his manager about it but as far as I’m concerned, it’s Hermes’ problem now 😂 although I do hope lovely delivery man won’t get into trouble for taking it!
