Does anyone else hate having artificial light on when natural light is available?

Or am I weird?

Drives me crazy when I get up in the morning and people are sitting with the blinds drawn and lamps/overhead lights on. It makes me feel really weird - like a bit headachy and discombobulated. Just an overwhelming feeling of wrongness.

Anyone else or is it just me?

Me! It's horrid. Drives me mad when DS (18) is in bed late morning/early afternoon with the curtains shut and the light on!😡

BogRollBOGOF · 02/11/2020 13:47

I think I'm married to a vampire. He just keeps curtains and blinds shut and stresses about people looking in.

I hate winter and need to maximise natural light to feel alive and awake.

It's going to be a long fucking winter playing curtain wars while he's WFH...

I agree. I had a work acquaintance I used to visit at home and she always had the blinds shut and the lights on. The house always smelt really stale too. I stopped going in the end as it just felt such a depressing place to be.

sausagedoglove · 02/11/2020 13:59

Yes!

I don't know anyone who switches the lights on before opening the curtains.

LoseLooseLucy · 02/11/2020 14:05

I absolutely hate false light, I’ll open my curtains as wide as possible to try and get all the natural light in until it’s nearly dark.

nosswith · 02/11/2020 14:21

I like the OP don't like it. Natural light as much as possible.

I have a vampire too. Closes all the curtains then switches all the lights on and leaves them on as he moves from room to room. We follow each other around closing/opening curtains and switching lights on/off.

We play a similar game with the windows. I like them open and he doesn't.

OMG yes I hate this, my DH turns on the bedroom light to get ready for work rather than opening the curtains 😩 and half the time leaves it on after he goes out 😑

I have a recognised neurological condition: visual stress. Some call it Mears Irlen Syndrome but there seems to be some controversy around the latter as they are a commercial organisation.

I've just this afternoon sent my glasses off to be tinted by an Irlen lab, which hopefully will help.

I find it really hard to read and concentrate under artificial lighting. It can sometimes feel very oppressive and almost painful.

timothytoeseatenbyaghoul · 02/11/2020 16:26

Yep, I hate it at work and do round turning all the lights off. Hate lights all together though.

kateybeth79 · 03/11/2020 06:51

I like both lol. As soon as I'm up in the morning, curtains are open, lights are on. If it's really bright and sunny outside then I probably wouldn't put on the light, but if it's a bit dismal they definitely go on. Closed curtains in the day depress me.

kezziethecat · 03/11/2020 06:56

Yes. Particularly in workplaces. When it was teaching the first thing I would do when I entered a room was turn the light off and pull the blinds up and inevitably someone would switch it on again by the time I was in that room again.

AnyFucker · 03/11/2020 06:56

Yes !

It makes me feel very out of sorts. I hate the "big light" on at any time. I would rather almost struggle in low light than have artificial light.

Every morning I follow my H who gets up before me, switching overhead lights off along the way
