Getting fed up of people who still haven't learned how to use Zoom

Sorry but I'm getting tired of it. I know it was new at first and we all had to learn, but that was months ago now. I'm getting fed up of people who can't sort themselves out. Especially losing patience with people with tablets who still haven't worked out how to put it at the right angle against a pile of books, and you end up seeing half their face at a weird angle. Sort it out, people.

I've had no need to use Zoom, so still haven't learned how to use it. We haven't all had to use it by any means.

Yeah, you'd hate me about as much as I hate Zoom... Luckily, I haven't had to use it much.

I'm talking about people attending professional meetings.

I agree with you on regular users. There's one woman I have a call with every week, and I don't need to see her nostrils and ceiling light ever again. Mind you, she has plenty of other annoying habits, including letting the grandchildren run round without using the bloody mute button. (She was annoying when we used to meet in person in the old says, too.)

But not everyone has regular calls with video, and it does take getting used to if it's your first time, so I'm prepared to give newbies some slack.

I agree. Especially those who don’t mute their line and accompany that by keyboard bashing.

ramblingsonthego · 02/11/2020 10:39

I have only used zoom twice as we tend to stick to teams, so when I have to use zoom in a professional meeting I am a bit of a novice. Although I always have my microphone and camera off until I have the lay of the land!

WitchesSpelleas · 02/11/2020 10:40

If I'm forced to have my camera on, I deliberately angle it to show as little of my face as possible. Absolutely hate being on camera.

dontgobaconmyheart · 02/11/2020 10:56

Perhaps you should have clarified that this is a work-based gripe OP. I have no desire to use zoom, no professional requirement to do so so won't be making a point of 'learning' just so I don't get barked at and made to feel small/incompetent/out of touch by other people.

These things take getting used to I'm sure, some people get very anxious using them ot lack the practice at something that is broadly speaking very new. Unless they work for you directly and you pay them, and it is causing you some directly meaningful issues with them not peforming a job role I think it's a bit excessive.

I think things like considering your camera angle or muting when you're not speaking but are typing, will be true for any videoconferencing system, be it Zoom, Teams, Google Hangouts, Bluejeans, Skype, Cisco WebEx, etc, etc.

My laptop is 10 years old and the screen only works at one angle! I don't really have a spare £400 for a new one.
