No frost

When I was a child in the sixties you would always have a hard frost by October 1st.
Its now November 1st and we've not had a frost and all my summer flowers and annuals are still going. My roses still look pretty good.
I'm not happy with this situation. It doesn't feel right. I haven't seen a single spider either. Normally they are rushing in when it gets cold.
I just don't know what season I'm in any more.

I know. Sad

As much as I know it means bad bad things climate wise, I'm kind of glad of it this year, a mild winter as long as it doesn't rain all the time will make all the isolating and lack of indoor activities a little more bearable.

I really don't want another cold freezing Feb/March like we had a few years ago where the paths and roads were solid ice and it was so cold it burned your skin. I need to be able to get my 6yo out in the garden, playing in the park and enjoying long walks with picnics for as long as possible.

I miss frost, weather so cold you see you breath, wearing hat, gloves scarf and still feeling chilly. I miss the bitter cold winds. Although my heating bill is a lot lower

I remember there being a lot of fog in autumn as a kid, but that seems much rarer these days too.
Our game at school was to run up to the other end of the playground where the fog always looked thicker, we spent many a happy playtime amusing ourselves like that Grin.

I used to like "skating" on the playground where the frost lasted longest under a sycamore tree. (90s)

Coming up to10 years since the December that was frozen up from start to finish. I was pretty much snowed in for my final weeks of pregnancy unless I was driven door to door.

Last year was odd it was so late and mild

It usually turns after this week around bonfire night - at least it has last few years.

But I think warmer autumns mean the leaves are on the trees longer, and so the trees look pretty with their red and yellow leaves.
