How much vitamin d are you taking?

Anyone following Dr John Campbell on YouTube may have seen his video on vit d dosing, and I'm interested to know if anyone is taking more than the general dose on the bottles? I've been taking more for a few weeks now - about 10-12 weeks, and I've noticed my periods are much less painful. Just wondering if anyone else is taking more and if you've noticed any benefits?

I’m taking 5000 iu, but monitoring my levels with the DMinder app. I find at this dose, my levels are staying constant at around 135 nmol/l (estimated). I take it in combination with vit K2 which helps with calcium and D3 metabolism.

Each 1000 iu (25 mcg) lifts your blood levels by around 25 nmol/l. 75 nmol/l seems to be the threshold level between severe and mild covid, and levels 100 - 150 are ideal and based on ancestral evolutionary levels, by looking at modern day tribes like the Maasai who spend most of their time outdoors hunting, gathering & herding.

I take 1000mcg daily. I thought this was enough? Do I need to up the dose?

Yeah I do cranky. I'm following Dr John Campbell precisely because I want to take the optimal amount. I'm certainly not going to advise anyone on how much to take. Just wondering what others are doing and experiencing.

I take a multivitamin every day which says 100% of daily requirement but the amount is a lot less than you lot are taking?

Maximum recommended per day is 100ug or 4000IU. I wouldn't take more than that without medical advice

I take 25ug/1000IU
Kids take 10ug/400IU

What happens if I take too much vitamin D?

Taking too many vitamin D supplements over a long period of time can cause too much calcium to build up in the body (hypercalcaemia). This can weaken the bones and damage the kidneys and the heart.

If you choose to take vitamin D supplements, 10 micrograms a day will be enough for most people.

Do not take more than 100 micrograms (4,000 IU) of vitamin D a day as it could be harmful. This applies to adults, including pregnant and breastfeeding women and the elderly, and children aged 11 to 17 years.

Children aged 1 to 10 years should not have more than 50 micrograms (2,000 IU) a day. Infants under 12 months should not have more than 25 micrograms (1,000 IU) a day.

Some people have medical conditions that mean they may not be able to safely take as much. If in doubt, you should consult your doctor.

If your doctor has recommended you take a different amount of vitamin D, you should follow their advice.

You cannot overdose on vitamin D through exposure to sunlight. But always remember to cover up or protect your skin if you're out in the sun for long periods to reduce the risk of skin damage and skin cancer.
