Mine:
Become an English teacher in different countries throughout Asia, and maybe if I learn at least one language fluently, a translator later on Smile

I've done my life plans, all the striving is behind me and I'm now coasting through my happy years.

NameChange84 · 01/11/2020 17:01

I’ve stopped making them. They always go wrong. Got to Plan E or F and figured out there is little point.

DS came back from a year teaching in Japan just before lockdown. He loved it and may well go back at some stage, especially looking at how the job market is going to be here. I’m too old to do anything like that unfortunately (they prefer all their teachers under 30!). I’m settled in my job/home anyway now so just plodding along until retirement! I have done all the things I set out to do with my life, so I’m ok with that.

jennie0412 · 01/11/2020 18:04

@Meruem I'm glad to hear he enjoyed it! Going to Japan has been on my bucket list for years!

What's left of my 40s - lose weight and get fit.

50s - achieve head of department post, start my own business, travel to South America.

60s - Travel through Eastern Europe, pay off mortgage and move to Cornwall.

70s - Retire, visit Antarctica, learn Italian.

80s - Visit Jordan and take up creative writing.

I taught English in China for a year before doing some other travelling/working.
Now settled down with a 'proper' profession and 2 kids.
My plans are to get fit, retrain in my career and focus on working my way up the ladder, so to speak.

jennie0412 · 01/11/2020 18:45

How was it? Would you do it again? Smile

Dundundunnn · 01/11/2020 18:48

It was great, and if I was 10 years younger I'd definitely do it again!
Good luck!

I worked in different countries and travelled in my 20’s and early 30’s. I’m now 39 and just enjoying family life and hobbies. I do hope for more extensive travelling when children are older/grown up and I’d also like to learn to play the piano and sing at some point.

bootygirl · 01/11/2020 20:19

Just finished my masters, hoping to move up in my boring but secure job..
What is left of my forties is to lose weight & get fit enough to hike the highest peak in my country. Learn to cook/bake really well. I want to get some kind of side line to pay for travel. Plan to travel around eastern europe, scandenavia and few other countries for a year or two in mid 50's. We will have kids through college and debt free by then.

Enjoy life.

I was diagnosed with a rare progressive condition aged 36. Fortunately it is manageable with immunosuppressants, but it was a huge curve ball.

The 'plan' is more about how you learn to deal with and face life's challenges, that is what makes you happy. How you turn it round when shit hits the fan.

Saying all that, I am now in my 40s so getting fitter, training as either a Pilates or Yoga instructor, taking up something like outdoor swimming or Stand Up Paddle Boarding, have amazing holidays, do some volunteering, live near the sea, find lasting love. Career wise I am reluctant to step up a level and happy where I am, earnings and stress wise, but continually investing in my professional skills is good. I had dreamed of writing a novel, maybe one day.

I'm sorry to hear that Sad I'm glad it's manageable!

My main immediate life plan is to move back to the U.K. covid and brexit have made me question this but I really want my kids to do secondary school there and know where they’re from and be close to family. Then I think I’ll pitch to DH for us to bugger off somewhere else. We’ve travelled a lot because we live abroad and I’d feel tremendous guilt over my carbon footprint so in addition to that move would be a commitment to not travel for leisure by plane for 5 years

Why are you leaving creative writing until your eighties?

Wing it! It’s stood me well this far.

Zixxy · 01/11/2020 23:01

Be as lazy as possible having worked since 15 yrs old albeit Saturdays and Summer whilst at school.

Indolence is wonderful, I can totally recommend it. No guilt, no regrets, I earned it all. It is great.

Far too many people try to fill their time when retired. I don't buy that. I am as lazy as possible lol. I retired at 54 on a great package. So happy out now!

jennie0412 · 01/11/2020 23:59
