Puppies new MC accessory on the school run?

At dc's private we can't get to the school entrance in the morning without having to avoid crowds of parents cooing over the latest puppy... Is this a common trend or just limited dc's school? Now my dc are begging us for a puppy from Father Christmas... Not a chance btw.. but apparently "everyone" has a new puppy!

They seemed to be the in thing at DS school last year.

The ones around here are all the designer mixed breeds... cost an arm & a leg...

They might be trying to socialise them, it’s more difficult at the moment and it's so important.
It’s donkey’s years since I had a puppy, but I took him to busy places and tried to expose him to people in uniform, horses, children, people using sticks or wheelchairs etc at an early age.

I started a thread about this a couple of weeks ago.
Where I live (fairly "naice" commuter town) there seems to be an unwritten law that everyone gets a dog (mostly cockerpoo/cavapoo/maltipoo /other-poo) when their youngest child is in years 3-5.
It applies to state and private school parents

Seriously, in about ten years, this is going to be the generic dog, isn't it? It's not even going to be a 'breed' any more. Just what every single dog looks like.

Sales of puppies have gone up massively this year because with lockdown/working from home people have a lot more time for them.

Unfortunately once everything goes back to normal there'll be lots of dogs who will be left alone at home and have no idea how to cope as they've never been left alone.

We take our puppy on the school run, I don’t notice many others, but most of the children are dropped off/collected by childminders rather than family members .

Although I don’t see why you mentioned the fact that your kids go to Private school. How is that relevant

Not new - there was a huge group of “dog mums” at DC State primary school. They’d all go for walks after drop off. It was a badge of honour to be the “new mum” and therefore the focus of attention of the group.

It really is chaotic at dc's school... No social distancing either when they're all fawning over the newest oodle doodle type pup...

Reporting back to say there was 3 new "midterm" newbie pups this at the gates this morning.. Dc had to investigate each one & were nearly late in the doors🙄Definitely a boom!
