Darnit. Decorators booked for mid November for complete revamp. My house is going to remain the biggest tip in Tipsville isn't it? Curse Covid (don't panic I know this isn't life or death).. But curses!

We'd taken up (and gotten rid of) our downstairs carpets ready for new ones to be installed... Looks like we're going to be living with concrete floors for a bit longer!

I believe construction workers will continue to work, but don't know where the definition of "construction" lies at this point as I haven't bothered to check

If decorators are included you may yet have a new and shiny looking house. Fairly sure carpet fitters don't count though!

...and theres also no chance of the "hurried frantic tidy up because visitors are coming" any time soon either. The idea that no one, particularly IL are coming to judge my cleaning visit soon means the house stays in a relative state of untidiness !Grin

God I hope things don't completely stop, we're in the middle of a total revamp, our whole house has been gutted and we're in rented accommodation which we have until mid December, praying we can be home in time for Christmas but the odds aren't looking good😩

Notsoaccidentproneanymore · 01/11/2020 10:56

We were due to have a new kitchen fitted in June. It stayed in our garage and was eventually fitted in Sept.

Could you move out while the work’s being done (I know, not that easy)?

Hmmmm my decorators say tradespeople are allowed in houses this time round. I can't find definite advice tho. No way will I break rules but if they're allowed it means they won't get support so I'd make the house as Covid safe as possible - all windows open and masks on. Anyone seen anything on this?

I saw this last night while trying to find out. Believe there will be further guidance before Thursday which is helpful

Bit weird isn't it, when households aren't allowed to mix. But if it's allowed then the guys won't be helped financially so it's a balance. But I'll await the final advice which will presumably come on weds

If it can go ahead but money is tight could you just get the room you spend the most time in done, then the rest at a later date?

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 02/11/2020 13:09

Sorry just re read your post & realised what you meant. Have a 3yo waffling at me Blush

It says you can continue to work even when your work is in people's homes in the instructions on gov.uk. It's one of the first things on the list.

Exactly. The rules are about reducing, not eliminating risk, so you're allowed to carry on working, which is important to most people.

However, unpalatable as it is, we don't need to see friends and family in person, hence the ban on mixing with friends and family. Plus you're a lot less likely to hug your decorator compared to your close friends and relatives.

I hear you. We're just coming to the end of a total roof replacement - 110 year old building and it's been 8 months of dust, noise, sweary contractors and drilling and scaffolding noise.

DD and neighbours kids are very tickled about the builder's bum and blue pants.

I am past myself. One more week I think.
