HELP! Which 'scary' films would you let your 6 year old watch for Halloween?

I'm obviously not going to let her watch Nightmare on Elm Street or The exorcist but DD wants a 'scary' film for tonight for our Halloween movie night seeing as there's no trick or treating this year.

She's quite brave and watches stupid creepy doll videos from her favourite youtubers and has watched Goosebumps etc but I don't want to scare the shit out of her so wanted to ask for suggestions for suitable halloween films which aren't too young but won't give her nightmares either. I'm the biggest wuss ever so would never let her watch anything too scary but she's insisting it has to be a bit scary for tonight.

What are yours watching and what age are they?

I watched hocus pocus with ds7 yesterday and it scared the crap out of him.

Nightmare before christmas is a good call

Coraline, anything Tim Burton and Hocus Pocus.

Monster House is good for younger ones too.

I might need this list for ME!

As a teen I lived 'real' scary things (not witches/ghosts) but the older I get the less I enjoy them (when home alone anyway).

I wish I'd come here earlier. I put Coraline on for the kids earlier and they were really scared by it. I didn't think to prewatch it

My 6 year old (at the time, she's 7 now) didn't make it through all of Frankenweenie as she got scared of it. I didn't even think she'd think it was scary
So that might be a good one for her

AuntyFungal · 31/10/2020 15:08

Addams Family (Angelica Huston & Raoul Guilia)

Ghost Busters (Bill Murray)

The Witches (Angelica Huston)

The haunted mansion is amazing!

Watching it right now... I loved it when I was a kid.

Gertie75 · 31/10/2020 15:15

Not strictly a Halloween film but my 7 year old liked The Spiderwick Chronicles, it's a fantasy film with goblins and other creatures in.

NoGoodPunsLeft · 31/10/2020 15:19

We watched hocus pocus yesterday, DD aged 8 wasn't scared at all & she can be a bit soft sometimes.

She's seen ghostbusters which I thought she would find scary (big dog & Sigourny Weaver being weird) but was fine.

Thank goodness for Disney plus, there's loads of hallowed films. She's watching Halloweentown now but it isn't scary at all so far.

I think that's about my level Of scare space I've got left right now!

Thanks for that

flamingyawn · 31/10/2020 16:49

Halloween town or the haunted mansion or original witches

AntiHop · 31/10/2020 16:53

Be aware that the original ghost busters film has some strong sexual references.

goose1964 · 31/10/2020 18:01

My 3year old grandson loves Coraline, Paranorman and the nightmare before Christmas. We watched the Addams family but it wasn't creepy enough for him.

EmilySpinach · 31/10/2020 19:34

Addams Family / Addams Family Values.
