Finding a very specific type of landlord

Would love to have some ideas, thinking outside the box really, to help me find the following: a landlord who will be interested in a long term (3+ years) let to two young adults with mild learning disabilities/high functioning autism. The rent would be paid from housing benefit and to complicate matters I’m looking in a naice area where there is stigma attached to “social”. Plus now you have to give 6 months notice to tenants so there is little coming on the market.

I’ve contacted a couple of estate agents, but can hear their lack of interest instantly. Other ideas? Maybe trying through a local church? Disability support group? Anything I’ve not thought of, oh wise MNers...

It’s a nice little earner for anyone in the right position- steady income, long term commitment, the young people have regular carers so things will be looked after... just need to find the right person and pitch it well!

Contact your local authority. Most have a private rented solutions department that work with local landlords.

I would think under the equalities act the landlord cannot really refuse based on disability? Why even mention it?
I rent out my home whilst I live in caring for a relative. My tenants receive housing benefit and it works very well, in fact I imagine their benefits income is more stable than someone not receiving any benefits at all.

What area are you in? Some charities/housing associations do "moving on" (bit like supported housing where individual lives in large block with others who have LD or ASD for 2 years than moves on) or supported housing
These are as rare as hens teeth
NAS might have some info
What area are you?

What's your relationship to these adults?

Is there a local almshouses charity? They often exist in more expensive areas. Generally, you fill in and form that explains your situation to a committee who make the decision about who to rent any vacant houses they have to.

I would also suggest that you say the HB will be paid directly - have they got any contacts with support groups that could help?
Will they be supported by family or have someone who helps them?
& although they probably don't have/may not have LD it still might be an idea to contact LD support groups locally

Get help with this from a charity that support people in this situation

I have a relation in this type of accommodation

both are on the spectrum and have 24/7 carers in a nice area of a city they both get HB and LCTR

3 years plus as an initial contract may be an issue as that would need to be under a deed rather than a contract which most estate agents/landlords would be unfamiliar with and would involve needing a solicitor.
But yes to speaking to the council and relevant charities
