Balsam Hill Christmas trees

I've been debating one for years and think this year might be the year (and they have a sale on!).
Does anyone have any reviews or pics they would be happy to share? And do you rate yours if you have one?
Our ceiling is 8.5ft high and was thinking of an 8ft so it is almost full height.
Also, if you have one do you have it pre-lit or without lights? We were thinking without light look more real.
Thank you!!

We got one 3 years ago, and it's lovely. Check how much space you have though; they do slimline and full width ones, and they can take up a lot of space. We've got pre-lit, with warm white lights, and we add our own strings of multi-coloured lights as well. You get a storage bag with it as well.

I'm also thinking about getting one.. following this thread!

I bought one last year when reduced after hearing someone rave about them. I love it. There are different types so choose one that best suits your style. I bought a bare one as we already have lights. It's easy to put up, colour coded, looks realistic, doesn't shed as much as a real one! And has a decent bag to pack it away in. We have high ceilings but didn't go huge as don't like it to take up too much space.

I got one in the sale about 3yrs ago. I went for a slim one with no lights. I like it, nice and bushy and compact enough to go in a corner out of the way

I love mine. We bought a pre lit one 4 years ago and it looks great. Worth the money imo.

Thank you everyone. For those who do have a BH, what style did you go for?

I got a 6ft prelit Berkshire mountain fir in the BH sale in early December and it's beautiful.

chopper2311 · 01/11/2020 19:51

I Love mine! We have 7ft full width pre lit and it's so easy and fluffy. You also get gloves to wear to fluff your branches and a bag to put it all back in for storage. I got smart plug off amazon too that connect to our Alexa for voice control and auto timing for the lights. "Alexa, then on Christmas" Grin

I can’t remember what it’s called but we went for one described as most realistic and I’m really pleased with it.

jambeforeclottedcream · 01/11/2020 20:16

We got one 6 weeks ago. Really looking forward to decorating it

The looks on peoples faces when it arrived at the end of September, and I said "I put up the Christmas tree at the weekend" just to make sure it was all ok and the right height

MaudHatter · 01/11/2020 21:28

My friend bought one last year and I wasn’t impressed . My sister has a much nicer tree from a local garden centre . They always always have sales btw

Belindabelle · 01/11/2020 21:58

I have a 8 foot Norwegian spruce. Pre lit.

I don’t like it.

I live in a Victorian villa and always had a real tree. But £80-90 a year gets expensive so I decided to invest in good artificial one and Balsalm Hill is the best.

It takes a whole day to put up. You have to fluff it. That is the technical term. They even give you a special pair of gloves to wear whilst you fluff. There are multiple You tube channels dedicated to the art of tree fluffing.
If you think you can’t be arsed and try to get away with not fluffing your tree it will look shit.
It Is big and weighs a ton. Think about where you will store it and how you will place it.

I hate it so much that last year I didn’t even put it up. I bought a potted 5 foot tree from the garden centre and put it in the family room. The sitting room remained treeless.

poorpaws · 01/11/2020 22:26

I chose a small one, it’s in a small room so a large one would have been overpowering. I can’t remember what it was called but it was their best seller I think and pre lit. This will be it’s fourth Christmas and I like it. (Photo doesn’t do it justice and was taken the first year, it as double the baubles on it now).

Just one more thing which might be of use.

If you decide which one you want and place it in your basket and leave it you will be contacted with an offer of an extra discount to encourage you to buy it. The trees are always on sale but you definitely get an extra discount when they see your basket. I’ve given this tip to several friends and it happened to all of them so I hope this helps.

Furries · 01/11/2020 23:56

Got mine 2 years ago, it’s 7ft and think it was the Norwegian spruce. Went for a pre-lit one and, I have to say, it’s SO nice not having to faff around with putting the blooming lights on the tree.

Literally no shedding, which is great. You have to spend a bit of time spreading out all the branches the first year, but it gets a bit easier the next year as you’ll never pack it away as tightly as when it’s shipped. You need room to store it!

I wouldn’t have got it at full price though, couldn’t justify that amount.

Oooh go for it. I got a Vermont Spruce pre lit warm white LEDs. I got mine in a July sale years ago. Every year we get tonnes of compliments. I still get people surprised that it's fake.
You do need space to store it. It comes with a large bag but it's bulky.

Pipandmum · 02/11/2020 01:59

I had a 8ft prelit one for three years then sold it. It looked very real and didn't take that much time to put up. I did wish I hadn't bought it pre lit as the lights were too bright and no option to maybe go multi coloured or use red and white lights. And I missed the tradition of going out and choosing a tree every year (or cutting our own down). The tree was also huge to store.

TrickyD · 02/11/2020 06:56

No one has ever bought a BH tree which was not in their "sale". The so-called sales run throughout the year. Still over priced though.

Christmas Tree World trees are equally excellent, though they too tend to have similar permanent sales. They are just as beautiful for much lest money.

ginsparkles · 02/11/2020 07:02

We adore ours!!! We have had it about 4 years and it's still looks brand new. It gets so many compliments every year. Highly recommend !

Indoctro · 02/11/2020 22:16

Had one for years love it, just wished we had got a bigger one though

We got pre lit with warm lights and most realistic
