If you have a contract for 25 hours..

..should you get paid for that many hours if you haven’t worked them (sent home early because it was quiet)? Contract says you may be required to work more hours in busy times. Doesn’t say anything about working less.

I thought if it says 25 hours, you should get paid for it whether you work it or not....but most employers will try damn hard to make sure that you always work it (because heaven forbid they pay you more than you work).

I'm also not sure whether would explicitly say or not in a contract but often they might expect you to make up hours over the month. So if you work 20 hours one week, they'd schedule you in for 30 the week after, and pay you for 50 hours over 2 weeks. Might say something about monthly, or annualised hours? Tbf works in your favour if you're off sick Monday, so you can pick up an extra 2/3 hours each day thereafter to make up for it

They have to pay you or find other work for you to do. Their choice to send you home! They can of course consult with you and reduce your contracted hours but that needs to be agreed by you.

Thanks. I thought so. I only worked 22 this week, and also had to take leave for two days when the owner/boss was on holiday and the place was shut. I need to say something!
