Gifts for hospital staff

Has anyone handed in a thank you for hospital staff recently? Or work in a hospital? It would be for nurses and Drs on the renal unit who took care of mum the last 5 years.

I was thinking wrapped sweets would hopefully be OK. Or would individually wrapped Border or Biscoff biscuits be better?

I work in a hospital. We by no means expect gifts but boxes of wrapped sweets or biscuit selections are always very welcome

Lovely coffee and teas and hot chocolate are nice gifts

Nice hand creams too!
Plus a more ‘official’ letter of praise of the staff to a higher being in the hospital eg PALS dept.

Even unwrapped things will be scoffed to be honest, but wrapped is definitely a good idea.

But a nice card saying thank you is always, always the best thing. Especially right now, when emotions are running incredibly high across the country, and frontline clinicians are taking the brunt of everyone's fear and exhaustion right now. Even a really generic kind letter would be both surprising and heartening this month.

Another thing that we always appreciate on our ward is a box of black biros! Almost brings tears every time

I was going to say pens as well! Always go down well and a gift that lasts a while. I’m glad she received care that means you wish to thank them

Officially, I think we are only allowed individually wrapped sweets/ biscuits in covid times, but patients' families have given us biscuit packs where each biscuit isn't individually wrapped, cakes, doughnuts etc and we have eaten them gratefully. But, yes, we are also especially grateful for cards too.

Im a nurse. Fruit hampers go down so well! Although I think probably that wouldnt be allowed anymore. A lovely card and teas and coffee selection? I would say steer away from chocs/sweets/biscuits - we get a lot of those.

I honestly think the best thing you can do is a card and a thankyou via Pals or management or official channels. But anything edible will be very much enjoyed

@dancethen thats a really good idea. We actually get very little good formal feedback. Anything formal is usually a complaint.

I once took a crate of individual bottles of apple juice from a farmer’s market.

(More costly, but this was to a team that have gone above and beyond for a family member for years).

Yes to nice teas and coffees, soft drinks too. Also mug shots/cup a soups for night staff and definitely a letter to the head of department.

I'm a nurse and we appreciate absolutely anything, fruit sweets biscuits cakes homemade or bought they all get eaten. It's a lovely thought of you.

I got the A&E staff a large hamper of Cadbury choc bars after about the 8th time they saw me after my almost fatal pulmonary embolism (also got the ICU and ward staff gifts when I was originally discharged of course). They were so kind when I rocked up terrified about a new chest pain or palpitations over the following months (I was suffering from a really nasty bout of PTSD) and they always understood and reassured me - never making me feel guilty for turning up for what felt like the umpteenth time.
