Good evening all
I've been suffering with money problems this month.

I've no food in the house. No money. My 5 month old has food so he is fine but me and hubby dont have anything.

Where can we go for help?

We dont get paid for another 2 weeks or so.

Thank you

Can you contact a food bank?

TokenGinger · 28/10/2020 22:20

Can you contact your health visitor to arrange a referral to a food bank?

Longer term, is this month just unfortunate or is it usually like this? Are you on a low income? Have you checked if you might be entitled to any benefits/universal credit to top up your income?

Do you have family or friends around who could help you? If I knew a friend or a family member was in this position, I'd stick up on some non-perishables for them so I knew they had some food in. I'm hopefully you might have somebody around you who would offer the same.

Contact your Health Visitor or Doctor and they will be able to refer you to a food bank.

Check any loyalty cards you have for points, you may have some Tesco vouchers, nectar points or advantage points that could help a little for some cheap basics.

Contact any family and friends if there's anyone who could loan you £20 to see you through.

What foodstuffs do you have in the house right now? Any flour, oats, seasonings, oils, tins...... if you list what you have someone may be able to offer suggestions for meals.

Food bank definitely. There are also websites that will allow you you type in what you do have and it will give suggested meals. Do you have any DVDs for CEX? Or at a very last resort could you pawn something? Not a great idea if this is an ongoing issue though Flowers

Hello everyone,

We've had a number of reports from people concerned about this thread so, as we usually do in these circumstances, we're putting our heads round the door with some important reminders.

Right now we can't see any evidence to indicate that the OP isn't above board – if we did, we'd remove the thread straight away. But the truth is that, sadly, we at MNHQ can't know with 100% certainty that any poster is genuine, no matter who they are or how long they have been here. As frustrating as it is, we're not able to vouch for anyone here.

So we always ask users to remember that not everyone on the internet is who they say they are – and remind folk not to give more to another poster, either financially (in cash or gifts) or emotionally (in time or care and support) than they'd be prepared to lose if things went wrong. We strongly advise against parting with any cash or giving away your personal details, and if you receive a PM which makes you uneasy - report it to us and we’ll take a look.

Sorry to hijack your thread briefly there, OP – we really hope you get it all sorted soon. In the meantime, you might find some useful information on our guide for dealing with financial difficulty.

Can you get a referral for a food bank. Any points on loyalty cards. Is there anything you can sell on eBay or Facebook

Is it just this month you are struggling or is it going to be a regular occurrence? Could you look at cutting down your expenses
