If you drink mead, is it primarily because you want to live in days of yore?

I bought some and I’m not sure if it’s because I like it or because I have an inner suppressed wench.

It’s nice but also kind of funky.
@fourquenelles please tell me your pub is called The Prancing Pony.
Please.

Mulled mead sounds like the next level yore.
Actually it's called The Ale House - is that medieval enough Grin

Straysocks · 28/10/2020 18:34

I have no knowledge of mead and have yet to experience it's (debatable) delight but wanted to congratulate you on your most thread heading, good work!

@WitchesSpelleas

I mean would you really want to live in 'ye olden tymes' - plague, unable to travel further than a few miles, no dentists etc?

Grin

But we have the new all singin' all 'dancin' plague.

And can't see a dentist anyway. One of my back teeth fell out during COVID and don't have a chance.

As for mead I can't remember exactly but yes it does conjure up old fashioned memories. Like Snowballs (eggnog type not snow).

Entrant6 · 28/10/2020 18:46

@fourquenelles It’ll do. I mean it’s not great for my fantasy mulled mead selling tavern. Is there a pig on a spit over the open fire? That would help.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 28/10/2020 18:47

@Entrant6 it involves lots of honey, water, some brewers yeast and a very large jar.

twobrews · 28/10/2020 18:48

My Aunts love a bit of mead and earn some of their living making cloaks and headdresses for pagans and other such folk. So I'm thinking it attracts a certain type...

Entrant6 · 28/10/2020 18:49

@RhinestoneCowgirl go on...

@twobrews you aunts (Aunts plural!!) sound epic and I definitely want to hear their backstory. How does one get into making cloaks for pagans?

We’ve made loads of it and bring it to motorbike rallies. This is the last lot we made for a friend’s wedding last year.

OMG x3 varieties @magicstar1!!!!

@Entrant6 its far too tiny for any of that nonsense. Just mulled mead and a menu of over 70 ales.

devildeepbluesea · 28/10/2020 18:56

@RhinestoneCowgirl I'm going to Google this and make some, then imagine I'm hiding in a greenwood shelter with my outlaw.

Entrant6 · 28/10/2020 18:57

A menu of seventy ales! Oh my word! Where is this marvellous tavern?

I think what makes it so amazing is that one has a little sip, is not quite sure... is it good? Is it bad? Who can say? Only way forward is to have another little sip... and another. Next thing is the bottle’s empty and you are beshhh frenzzzsssshhhh with whomever you’re drinking it with.

magicstar1 · 28/10/2020 18:58

@Entrant6 we had orange, mixed fruit, and strawberry kiwi. The best we ever made was blood orange...it was absolutely amazing.

pinkbalconyrailing · 28/10/2020 18:59

to be drunk like sherry.
from small glasses.
far too sweet to drink in quantities imo

tofuschnitzel · 28/10/2020 19:01

Spiced mead is absolutely lovely! It is definitely worth trying a few different brands as not all meads are created equal. We also served mead at our wedding, my husband loves it.

MelodramPatheticism · 28/10/2020 19:01

My husband makes the stuff 🙄

RuffleCrow · 28/10/2020 19:01

It's alcoholic honey -what's not to like?!

Actually it's a bit sweet but i do like the yore factor.

I bet it would go great in a cocktail.

Have we met Grin?

@Entrant6 there is a clue in the photo but a few towns further west.

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 28/10/2020 19:02

I love it!

Of course it has to be quaffed

You can't just drink it, that's far too mundane

RiftGibbon · 28/10/2020 19:03

It tastes nice! It was bought for drinking with pagan friends at celebration occasions, but it's too good to hold on to for the next time we can meet!

If you can finish the bottle in one sitting you'll probably be inebriated enough to think the bar stool is your best friend ...
CandidaAlbicans2 · 28/10/2020 20:08

Oooh yes! I bought a bottle of ginger mead at my local country show which I'm saving till Christmas. Apparently it's very nice with Prosecco, so I'll be going full on Ye Olde Yuletide this year Grin
