Inappropriate movies you watched as a child

Following on from another thread, my parents literally let me watch anything!
Yes the 80s were different times, and I don't think any of it did me any harm but not sure I'd be letting my dcs watch any of these under the age of 12
(Some of them I was under 10 as my parents were still together)

Little Darlings ( I loved this film)
Grease
Nightmare on elm street
Poltergeist
Over the edge

What films were you watching as a child which would horrify people today

I spot on your grave
The hills have eyes
Friday 13th

I miss pirate vhs

Janaih · 27/10/2020 21:37

I was never allowed to watch an age restricted movie until I reached that age. I am quite glad about this now. I know so many people that watched horrors at a young age. Chucky and nightmare on elm street seem to be the main ones.

formerbabe · 27/10/2020 21:39

I already posted on the thread I think you mean but for the benefit of those who missed it.

Our mum put Pretty Woman on for us to watch...I was about 11, my sister was 6 Confused

Pebbledashery · 27/10/2020 21:40

I remember watching the hand that rocked the cradle when I was very young.. Rebecca de Mornays psycho face still sends chills down my spine.

SqidgeBum · 27/10/2020 21:41

ET at age 4. I was TERRIFIED of that creature for the best part of a decade.

Forrest Gump age 7 or 8. The war scenes in the jungle freaked me out.

Tyzz · 27/10/2020 21:41

I saw Soldier Blue (graphic violence and x rated) when I was 13. At a cinema- they didn't ask for proof of age in those days.
Last Tango in Paris when I was 15.

I guess these days they would be on Netflix but this was early 70s.

Janaih · 27/10/2020 21:44

Oh can I just say though... Watership Down! Shock

YesItsMeIDontCare · 27/10/2020 21:48

Threads when I was 14 or 15. Had to watch it as part of "Social Education" at school and it terrified the shit out of me.

Coronacockup · 27/10/2020 21:49

Nightmare on elm street, poltergeist, chucky and when I was quite young I remember a film about a boy who had monsters living under his bed I can remember what it was called but when I think about it now it was horrible!!

FartyLabrador · 27/10/2020 21:52

Jaws, the Exorcist, Alien. All when I was about 8 or 9. Can’t watch them now.

Michellebops · 27/10/2020 21:52

Child's play
Rocky horror picture show
Nightmare on elm street
Towering inferno

To this day I can't watch a horror movie

BarcelonaFreddie · 27/10/2020 21:53

Salem's Lot... aged 8.
Then had a sleepover, topping and tailing, at my cousin's. Bungalow. No curtains as bedroom was being decorated. 🙈

Elzbells · 27/10/2020 21:54

Blue Lagoon. I was 8 and the babysitter was watching it. Was certainly an early introduction into sex and how babies are made.

And Candyman when I was 12, watched it at a friends sleepover and wouldn't look in a mirror for about 6 months after!

All the Carry On movies. I genuinely think they gave me very warped view of how women are viewed by men.

Whatwouldscullydo · 27/10/2020 22:01

Define inappropriate . I mean I.wasnt scared of any of it.

Started watching from about 9. Can't remember exact ages but watched things like
Waxwork
The thing
Aliens
Amityville dollhouse
Pulse
Gremlins
The fly
Poltergeist
Candyman
Hell raiser

Although older but still under 18 watched
Exorcist
Texts chain saw massacre

I'm.sure there were others. I cant remember them all. I still.love horrors to this day and I haven't seen one yet that scares me

Vonvon222 · 27/10/2020 22:02

Nightmare on Elm Street. I was off school sick and watched it, I didn’t sleep properly for about a year. I was too scared to go to the toilet during the night and slept with the light on. Must have been 8 or 9.

Poltergeist too.

Shizzlestix · 27/10/2020 22:02

Salem’s Lot. It impacted on me quite badly. I still can’t watch it.

planplan · 27/10/2020 22:05

Fright Night aged about 9.
Scared the shite out of me.

My older cousin took my sister and I to see National Lampoon's Animal House at the cinema. I was 8, my sister 11. I think she must have thought it was going to be animal related or something. Grin

AgeLikeWine · 27/10/2020 22:07

Loads, including The Omen, The Exorcist, Carrie & Alien. As a result, I became quite desensitised and unshockable, which means I don’t bother watching ‘scary’ movies these days, because there is zero chance of them scaring me.

OohKittens · 27/10/2020 22:08

I knew all the songs from the rocky horror picture show by the time I was 7.

Hassled · 27/10/2020 22:08

A film which google tells me was called The Giant Spider Invasion. I watched it through the banisters behind an oblivious babysitter.

Mostly with me though it was inappropriate books. My parents were totally unaware which of their many crime books I was reading and some of them were horrific.
