This list is so shaming, the world is laughing at us. Aussies put us on their news channels, never mind Europe.

@TibetanTerrier

"They're trying to keep the time people spend in the shop to a minimum by limiting what they can buy. They don't want people ambling around for ages potentially spreading the virus."

Mothers buying for babies ambling now there`s an oxymoron

These things are essential a mum can pursue ALL the baby bottles she wants Hmm

FinnegansWhiskers · 26/10/2020 16:16

The non essential list you provided clearly states the baby items to be in the “exceptions” category. Which means they CAN be bought.

The sanitary protection aisle was cordoned off in ONE supermarket in Wales. Not because of the lockdown rules but because the store had been broken into and the police were investigating. That particular aisle was targeted in the theft.

Your post and responses to other posters are rather hysterical - for no good reason OP.

Mrsjayy · 26/10/2020 16:19

Puruse* is what I meant to say.

Thisisnotnormal69 · 26/10/2020 16:22

Is this a wind up? What a weird thread

doctorhamster · 26/10/2020 16:27

Most of the world has never heard of Wales (I know because I'm from there and have travelled a lot) so I think you'll be ok in the laughing stock stakes.

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 26/10/2020 17:38

I'm thinking Drakeford has lost the plot. He needs a rethink. It's not helping small specialty stores that have had to close by stopping supermarkets selling stuff, it's just making people shop online at places like amazon who will deliver the next day with prime.
Luckily I bought underware and socks for Dd and me at M&S Friday I'd been putting it off, most of my socks had holes and the undies no logner fitted over my lockdown belly.

ChaChaCha2012 · 26/10/2020 17:55

@FedUpAtHomeTroels Read the thread. The OP's information is all wrong.

housemdwaswrong · 26/10/2020 18:15

@finneganswhiskers There's been a few threads like this lately - I can't help feeling there's an ulterior motive. Most of the info in the threads is wrong, tesco and sanitary wear being a classic example, and even when the OP says it is wrong, people ignore it and carry on griping.

No-one in my immediate circle is particularly bothered by not being able to buy non-essentials for 17 days, or by lockdown when you can go out to exercise - not saying people are thrilled by lockdown obviously, but it's only just over a fortnight. I know there was a protest in Llandudno I think it was today, but the sign there all verify that it is the same group of anti vaxxers/anti-maskers and independence/anti-Senedd people that made up a large part of the crowd.

The threads which have been appearing seem to be pretty reminiscent of the 'Yes Cymru' or similar posts on twitter pushing for independence.

Tier 3 lockdown is almost identical - shop for essentials only, go to work/school or caring responsibilities, and no mixing. I don't see a slew of threads on that, and some tier 3 places like Leicester having been under these restrictions for 108 days - a tad different to 17 days.

Drakeford said on Sunday that supermarkets were allowed to use discretion, particularly mentioning foster care etc. I've no doubt this hadn't been considered initially, but at least he made that explicit on day 2 of the lockdown - that's a pretty quick response time.

This whole thread has an odd tone, as did the other one which I 'hid.' Just doesn't ring quite true for some reason.

Heatherjayne1972 · 26/10/2020 18:36

Strange list.
If you’re working from home I would have thought computer accessories might be very essential
And anyone who’s had a baby to care for knows just how essential baby item are

But plants? . Yeah crack on buying them. No one can live without plants

FinnegansWhiskers · 26/10/2020 18:39

@housemdwaswrong

This hype is caused by people reading something on FB and believing it to be true. In this case somebody went to the Tesco Store, saw the sanitary protection aisle closed off and immediately posted, on FB, “So the Welsh Govt are classing SP as not essential! 🤬” complete with pic of blocked aisle.

Then the conspiritists and anti maskers all jumped on the bandwagon and reposted. Of course they ignored the news articles and twitter posts explaining why the aisle was blocked.....

Exactly the same as someone posted on FB that baby clothing, nappies, bottles, formula etc was now classed as non essential. There is no truth to it. Some people will go against whatever leader of whatever Govt says and does, regardless of the reasons why.

Jeez why can’t everyone work together. It’s for 17 days!!

housemdwaswrong · 26/10/2020 18:49

I know! It's probably Keep Britain Free crap.

It's selfish, to the nth degree. 17 days of being able to buy exactly what they want in supermarkets (because online doesn't exist), is obviously more important than the fact that the NHS won't be able to cope with flu, covid, and norovirus this winter, and more essential health services will pay the price.

I'm done with it. It's a political/movement based train of thought that exemplifies the 'I'm alright Jack bugger everyone else' that is all too bloody common now.

My dad has been waiting for 3 years for a hip replacement, according to the hospital it will now be at least a year before they catch up. We have a private appt on Friday, at an overall cost of £12,000. We've scrimped and saved for a year to find the deposit, and will hopefully get the balance on finance. A luxury many won't have when the NHS cancels everything again this winter, but it's okay, because people want to buy books and bloody pens.

Mrsjayy · 26/10/2020 19:10

But plants? . Yeah crack on buying them. No one can live without plants

Tbf they would die if people were not able to buy them so if you are popping to Morrisons you could pick up a plant/flowers with your baby bottles and milk and bread n

Ecosse · 26/10/2020 19:33

Mark Drakeford is a far-left Corbynite. This is what happens when you put the far-left in charge of your life.

ravensoaponarope · 26/10/2020 20:07

It's for two bloody weeks.

AlwaysCheddar · 26/10/2020 20:27

It’s disgraceful.

Afonavon · 26/10/2020 20:33

@Spam88

But OP, have you seen the infection rates in England..? I'm definitely pleased to be in Wales.
Me too! Bloody hell calm down and be grateful that BJ isn’t our leader!
Deathraystare · 27/10/2020 09:09

*Tesco "interpreted" the rules earlier that sanitary products were non essential. hmm

A woman had to literally go to the media to get that "diktat" reversed.*

Ok so the women and girls of Wales should drip dry???!!

housemdwaswrong · 27/10/2020 09:13

@deatgraystare have you read the thread at all? This is ompkete bollocks. The store had a theft from that aisle so it was blocked off awaiting police investigation. An employee mistakenly thought it was blocked off because it was non essential.

There was no diktat, no reversing of anything, it was a mistake by one employee who misunderstood why the aisle was blocked off. I can assure you you can buy as many tampons as your heart desires.

ShatnersBaboon · 27/10/2020 09:24

This isn't a problem in reality. You can buy tampons, baby bottles, printer ink etc etc with gay abandon. Anything non-essential will have to be ordered online for the next few days. Wales hasn't temporarily become the totalitarian state the op is imagining.
